The Washington Highlands is a premier example of Garden City Planning. Designed in 1916 by internationally-famous city planners Werner Hegemann and Elbert Peets, this model residential neighborhood is laid out with curving streets that preserve the natural topographic features of the 133-acre site. Prior to development, the Highlands were part of a hops and Percheron horse farm owned by famous Milwaukee brewer, Captain Frederick Pabst... Apart from the fact that the area and homes are beautiful, there are other reasons why the quality and excellence has continued through the years. The Washington Homes Association is a strong and conscientious organization that manages the affairs of the community and preserves its distinctive atmosphere. Pride of ownership also plays a strong role; serious renovation and restoration in the last decade attests to the residents' commitment to preserve the architectural legacy of the neighborhood.
