Alexander Reip - CTO

Alex came to the company at its foundation in 2012. With an MSc in Chemistry from The University of Reading, he completed his Materials Sciences PhD from Brunel University concurrently to working as CTO. He spent three years developing the company's innovative nanoFLUX® coating technology, including co-writing its core patent, before being appointed CEO in 2015. Within this role he has established relationships with major worldwide manufacturers within heat exchanger technologies, and into waste heat recovery and electronics-cooling markets, whilst remaining highly involved in the scientific development of the nanoFLUX® process, reducing deposition duration and reliance on market-controlled resource costs. In 2020 he stepped down as CEO to bring in a more experienced commercial presence to the company and returned to the CTO position full time. Alex has won multiple awards including the 2018 Oxford Trust Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the 2019 Royal Society of Chemistry Rising Star In Industry Award.

Hannah Rogers

Job Titles:

Hannah graduated from the University of Bath in 2019 with a master's degree in Chemistry, during which she undertook an industrial placement year at Carbometrics where she synthesised and developed glucose binding molecules for healthcare applications. Hannah then went on to do a PhD at the University of Bath in sustainable chemical technologies, focusing on heterogeneous catalysts for liquid organic hydrogen storage, in addition to plasmonic copper catalysis.

Ian Russell - CEO

Job Titles:
  • CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Ian has over 20 years' experience managing early-stage business ventures in electronics, wearable technology, wireless communications, digital media, and software development. He's experienced in negotiating multi-million-dollar technology licensing contracts and strategic alliances with key vendors and partners, and has led three successful trade sales of technology businesses to publicly listed companies - including one to BlackBerry®. Ian holds a B.Sc. in Electronic Engineering/Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering, both from the University of Birmingham.

Peter George

Job Titles:
  • SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER
Peter has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of Birmingham with more than 15 years of experience in research and systems development. He is an engineering professional accomplished in design, modelling, development and testing of systems. Through his career, he gained competence to move from ideas to development then to application where he has successfully developed a number of heat powered adsorption-based machines, multiple refrigeration and cooling systems and recently electrolyser performance testing rigs.

Pooria Moozarm Nia

Pooria holds a Master's degree in Polymer Engineering and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry. His expertise further enriched by several years of postdoctoral research. He has gained valuable experience in both industry and academia, working in and leading R&D teams. Throughout his career, Pooria has been deeply engaged in the fields of electrochemical energy storage and conversion, electrochemical sensors, and power-to-X technologies through the development of new materials and methods. His work has contributed to the development of more efficient, sustainable, and green energy systems to combat climate change. He is an expert in developing and optimizing electrochemical systems, analytical techniques, and diagnostic tools. As an active member of the scientific community, Pooria has contributed his research, publications, and collaborations with fellow scientists and institutions and has published over 30 publications in his field.

Tonia Stengelin

Job Titles:
  • GRANT MANAGER
Tonia joined Oxford nanoSystems in the autumn of 2018 as a grant manager. With a MSc in Physics, and further Fine Arts and Communications training, She has worked for the Stanford Medical School in Palo Alto (CA). Before joining Oxford nanoSystems, she worked for Techpixies and Made with Joy in Oxford.

Uliana Tokarenko

Job Titles:
  • Engineering Technician
Uliana graduated level 3 engineering from Abingdon Witney College in 2021 and she won the school art and ceramics award in 2018. She joined Oxford nanoSystems as an Engineering Technician working on thermal, mechanical and chemical engineering projects. Recently she completed multiple electrolyser test rigs for an external customer.
