Bertha L. Burruezo

After practicing insurance-defense law for several years, Bertha began focusing her practice in the area of workplace law. Bertha served as an Associate with the Orlando Office of Fisher & Phillips, LLP, a national law firm representing management exclusively in labor, employment, immigration and benefits law and related litigation. In 2007, after gaining experience in various areas of labor and employment law, Bertha opened her own law firm to focus primarily on the representation of small businesses and employees. Bertha has owned and operated her own small businesses, and understands the challenges that business people encounter. Bertha has a unique ability to creatively resolve issues in a thoughtful and collaborative way.

Carlos J. Burruezo - Shareholder

Carlos, a seasoned attorney in the labor & employment field, has been practicing law for more than 34 years. His experience includes tenures at several national employment and labor law firms, having served as a partner at Jackson Lewis, LLP, a founding and Managing Partner of the Orlando Office of Fisher Phillips, LLP, and founding and Managing Shareholder of the Orlando Office of the world's largest labor and employment law firm, Littler Mendelson, P.C. Carlos also has experience handling complex commercial, business and general civil litigation matters before state and federal courts. After nearly 25 years of practice, Carlos decided to join his wife, Bertha, in providing pro-active, holistic, and balanced solutions for both employers and employees in the many areas of workplace law. Carlos' and Bertha's mission is to provide "big firm" expertise in a more intimate setting.

Debbie Abadia

Deborah hails from Philadelphia, PA. Before joining Burruezo & Burruezo, she worked at a national law firm representing local, regional and Fortune 500 corporations in labor and employment litigation at the federal and state court level, as well as before the EEOC and state and local administrative agencies. She has also managed her own employment law practice and served as Of Counsel with a national employment defense firm with 750 attorneys in 25 offices. Throughout her career, she has also counseled and trained human resources and management on topics involving Title VII, PDA, EPA, ADEA, FMLA, ADA, FCRA and FLSA (wage and hour) compliance. She's also advised senior management and in-house counsel regarding employers' federal and state statutory legal obligations in the employment context. In addition to her firm experience, Deborah has been a featured speaker at management seminars for Lorman Education Services, The Defense Research Institute, The Council on Education in Management, Workforce Central Florida University, the University of Phoenix and the American Association of Corporate Counsel. Debbie has been the office manager for Burruezo & Burruezo, PLLC, since June 2021. Before serving in this role, she was an elementary school teacher and media specialist for 26 years. Debbie was born in Virginia but moved to Florida when she was three years old. Debbie graduated from the University of Central Florida. Edson Abadia Sr.

At B&B, Edson Sr. serves as the Director of Business Development and attends community events, networking meet-ups, and other activities to engage with the clients of B&B. Edson Sr. was an educator for 27 years, working with Volusia County Schools System. During his tenure, he taught all grades and subjects 1st-8th grade, including Drop Out Prevention. Over the past 20 years, Edson has been involved in the competitive soccer community with local youth clubs and at Spruce Creek High School from 2002-2022. He served as the Director of Coaching and Player Development, allowing him to work with coaches from various backgrounds and players of all ages and abilities. Edson was recognized as Volusia County Teacher of the Year in 2003 and the News-Journal Coach of the Year on three occasions. In these various community roles, Edson Sr. developed business skills, client relations, and organizational planning and operations. He has a passion for public speaking and appreciates every chance he gets to meet someone new and connect. Edson attended Stetson University College of Law, where he was very involved on campus and in the community. While a student, Edson interned with Disability Rights Florida, a non-profit focused on legal issues facing the disability community, as well as served as a Research Assistant for a well-known scholarly writer and disability advocate. Edson served as President of Lambda Legal Society, Stetson's LGBTQ+ student organization. Under his leadership, Lambda created the Lambda Legal Society PRIDE Scholarship, the first scholarship for current LGBTQ+ and ally students at Stetson, and hosted the Inaugural Pride Flag Raising, Transgender Flag Raising, Alumni Mixer, and numerous events centered around the intersection of art and the law. Edson also served as a member of Stetson's Campus-Wide Diversity Committee and the Student Bar Association's Diversity Committee. Edson earned many recognitions throughout law school, including Stetson's Pride Award, the Victor O. Wehle Award, and the Diaco Law Book Award.
