Adam Lang

Head of Nesta Scotland

Adam joined Nesta after five years as the Head of Policy and Communications for Shelter Scotland, where he was part of both the charity's UK senior leadership team and Scottish directorate leadership team. Prior to this Adam spent several years working in a range of policy, public affairs and strategic communications roles in Scotland across the public, private and civil society sectors. Adam is a Fellow of the RSA and is currently a Trustees for the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organizations (SCVO), a member of the Scottish Leaders Forum and also sits on the Advisory Board for the Data Driven Innovation (DDI) Initiative at the University of Edinburgh. Adam was part of the Steering Committee for the Scottish Government's AI Strategy and previously sat on the Governing Committee for the Association for Scottish Public Affairs (ASPA). Adam has three young children and spends most of his free time trying to stop them from killing each other. When he gets the chance he enjoys cooking, reading, loud music, the cinema and single malt Islay whisky.

Chris Norris

Chris Norris is a Senior Programme Manager working on the Accelerating Ideas programme. Chris Norris is a Senior Programme Manager. He is currently working on Accelerating Ideas, a programme funded by the National Lottery Community Fund to scale up eight innovations that help people to age well, feel connected to others and be part of active, engaged local communities. Chris previously worked on Rethinking Parks, a partnership with Big Lottery Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund which supported innovators to address the challenges faced by public parks. He also worked on the Centre for Social Action Innovation Fund. Before joining Nesta in September 2013, Chris was a project manager at Lambeth Council working in economic development. In this role, he worked on projects to support town centres and social enterprises. He started his career in local government as a participant in the sector's National Graduate Development Programme, working at Reading Borough Council in a range of service areas including education, neighbourhood regeneration and adult social care. Chris holds a BA (Hons) in Industrial Economics and an MA in Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Nottingham, and a postgraduate diploma in Local Government Management from Warwick University. Outside of work, he is a trustee of the Friends of Ruskin Park and a volunteer, fundraiser and patient advocate for Bowel Cancer UK.

Dr Cath Sleeman

Cath leads on projects that identify and fill gaps in data ecosystems. Her projects show the potential of novel data and methods to deliver new insights, and her work blends economics, data science and creative data visualisation. Cath has successfully led collaborations with the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence, the Department for Education, and the Gatsby Foundation. She has worked with a large range of novel data sources, from organisations including the BFI, Burning Glass, the Guardian, the BBC and the Science Museum. For her work on creative data visualisation, she has won an Information is Beautiful Award, as well as awards from the Bank of England and 360Giving. She has been invited to speak at The Financial Times (data visualisation team), Google, Channel 4 (data science team), BBC (data science event) and the Cabinet Office (PMIU). Prior to Nesta, Cath was a Gates Scholar at Cambridge University, completing a PhD in Economics. She has previously worked as a UK Economist at Morgan Stanley and as a Senior Economic Analyst at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
