DAVID HOLMES - Managing Director

David has a wealth of experience in delivering actuarial services in the Channel Islands. Prior to establishing First Actuary, David worked for a Guernsey based firm of consulting actuaries, where he was responsible for business development and leading the delivery of pension and investment consulting services in Jersey. David studied Actuarial Mathematics at university and worked for Standard Life in Edinburgh before moving to Guernsey with his family in 2003. In 2004 he completed his actuarial qualification to become a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries while working for a large European insurance company, where he gained expertise in both life and non-life insurance. David then joined Guernsey consultants BWCI where he worked initially as an investment consultant, advising pension, corporate and charity clients. In 2008 David took a year out to travel with his family, before relocating to Jersey with BWCI. David led business development and the delivery of pension and investment consulting services in the island until the end of 2011. David established First Actuary in 2012 to provide a responsive and tailored service to clients seeking high value actuarial solutions in Jersey. In addition to traditional actuarial work in pensions and insurance, David has expertise in the audit, development and improvement of calculation processes. In particular David promotes greater automation and a more robust approach to custom applications in commonly used software including Excel, Access and VBA.

MICHAEL NOREM

Michael has enjoyed a long career in financial services in Jersey, primarily within wealth management and advisory services. Prior to joining First Actuary in 2017 he was a Director at Moore Stephens Financial Management for many years where he specialised in fields as diverse as advising private clients on investments and pensions to arranging "beauty parades" and analysing performance of externally managed trustee portfolios. Michael studied Metallurgy & the Science of Materials at Birmingham University and after a spell in industry, he returned to Jersey where he joined Britannia Investment Management, progressing to become International Marketing Manager promoting their range of funds in the UK and elsewhere. In the late 1980s he left to form Fortress Financial Services, an IFA business, with a former colleague which they ran successfully until 2000 when they were bought out by Moore Stephens. Michael is relishing the new challenges he now faces in assisting First Actuary as well as enjoying a slightly more relaxed approach to life in general.
