Dan has been a member of the SPRinT faculty since 2012. He has a special interest in simulation and Crisis Resource Management incorporating this into ward teaching and as part of a programme for newly qualified nurses.

Dr Ajay Desai

Dr Desai is an experienced paediatric consultant and educator who worked in PICU at St Mary's Hospital, the ECMO unit at Great Ormond Street and for the Children's Acute Transport Service before coming to Royal Brompton. Among his research projects Dr Desai has looked at the impact of simulation training on team members when involved in actual resuscitation events. Dr Desai is a graduate of the Children's Hospital Boston Simulation Instructors workshop and a London Deanery STeLI-trained facilitator. Dr Desai sits on Education Committee of IPSSW (International Pediatric Simulation Symposia & Workshops) and is an active member of the Paediatric Intensive Care Society Education, Learning and Simulation (PICSELS) group.

Dr Amy Chan-Dominy

Amy completed her training under the Australia & New Zealand College of Intensive Care Medicine, with diverse clinical experience in all sub-specialties including retrieval and hyperbaric critical care. Since 2008, her clinical time has been equally shared between adult and paediatric intensive care at ECMO and trauma specialist centres which included The Alfred Hospital in Australia, Evelina Children's Hospital in London, and Melbourne Royal Children's Hospital. Amy's journey in simulation training started when working with Dr Meredith Allen in Melbourne, then volunteering with the Hands Up for Health programme delivered by the Simulation And Interactive Learning (SaIL) centre team based at St Thomas' site designed for children and young people in south London. Her experience was advanced under the SPRinT Programme when she joined the Royal Brompton Hospital in 2015. As a faculty team, she has contributed in promoting regular SPRinT sessions in the adult critical care department. With keen interest in education and airway care, Amy developed the Team and Resource for Airway in Critical Care (TRACC) course with the aim to enhance airway rescue team performance with safe, flexible approach to airway management issues. When not waltzing on the ICU floors, Amy enjoys ballroom latin dancing.

Dr Cecilia Korb

Dr Korb graduated in Medicine and obtained specialty qualifications in Paediatrics and Paediatric Intensive Care in Brazil. While developing a keen interest in medical education and research, she was awarded a Master of Science degree in Paediatric and Child's Health in 2013. Her involvement with simulation started as PALS course instructor with the American Heart Association in 2010. Since 2015, she has been working with the Simulated InterPRofessional Team Training (SPRinT) programme at Royal Brompton Hospital, focusing on crisis resource management and human factor training. She has completed the SPRinT Introductory and Advanced Facilitators courses and serves as SPRinT Faculty. Dr Korb is also member of the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). Her research interest in simulation includes paediatric emergency resternotomy after cardiac surgery, use of the innovative open chest model, team performance improvement through in-situ simulation, and quality CPR.

Dr Margarita Burmester

Margarita's main interest in simulation is to enhance patient care and safety at the frontline clinical environment through high level, high stakes in situ interprofessional simulated team training. For this reason she founded the SPRinT (Simulated interPRofessional Team Training) programme at Royal Brompton Hospital in 2008. This award-winning, patient safety educational programme now trains over 100 interprofessional staff from across the Trust each year, and delivers facilitator courses for 50-60 professionals/year in human factor, team training and simulation regionally and nationally. Margarita has led research in innovative adult learning techniques and tools in order to translate into clinical effectiveness and improvement. Margarita was a founding member of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre (CSSC) - a joint venture between Royal Brompton and Royal Marsden Hospitals completed in 2012. Margarita was a Board of Director member of the International Pediatric Simulation Symposia & Workshops (IPSSW) from 2011-14 and was Secretary and Research Lead for the Paediatric Intensive Care Society Education, Learning and Simulation (PICSELS) group 2010-14. Margarita has been an executive member of ASPiH (Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare) since 2016, is currently Simulation Co-Chair for Health Education North West London (HENWL) and sits on the simulation working group of the European Society of Paediatric & Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC). She has been a judge of education and training for the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Patient's Safety Awards since 2016.

Dr Mary Lane

Dr Lane joined the SPRinT programme in 2009, developing and leading the expansion of the Mobile SPRinT programme. She served as associate director in 2011 before becoming a Director in 2012. As a director, she has helped lead the development of SPRinT into an internationally recognised and national award winning programme. Mary has a keen interest in medical education and human factor training, in particular using simulation with a focus on adult learning techniques to enhance and consolidate learning. She is a graduate of the Harvard/Children's Hospital Boston Simulation Instructor Course (2010/11) and London Deanery Simulation Facilitation Training (2009). In 2015 she completed her Masters in Medical Education, awarded with distinction from the University of Bedfordshire. Dr Lane has served on the Education Committee of the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists since 2013 and as council member of the Patient Safety Section of the Royal Society of Medicine since 2016. As Chair of Royal Brompton's Experts in Simulation Committee since 2015, she has overseen the implementation of several quality improvement initiatives to promote safe in-situ simulation.

Dr. Abhishek Narayanan

Dr Abhishek Narayanan achieved his MD in Paediatrics and a two-year Fellowship in Paediatric Intensive Care in India. He is an experienced Paediatric Intensivist having worked in various PICUs across London including St Mary's Hospital, Children's Acute Transport Service, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital. He joined as PICU Consultant in Royal Brompton hospital in 2017. Dr. Narayanan remains committed to train and guide the medical workforce. He has completed the SPRinT Advanced Facilitator Course. He is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor to paediatric Junior doctors in RBH. He is also faculty at Paediatric BASIC Course and TRACC Course (Team & Resource for Airway in Critical Care).

James Woods

James is an IT specialist who has a keen interest in medical simulation and healthcare IT. He has worked in the UK and in his native Ireland, on multiple complex IT projects including open source web development and comprehensive server infrastructure solutions. On gaining his BSc, James commenced work at Royal Brompton Hospital, and has been an integral part of the SPRinT programme since its conception. James is responsible for all aspects of the SPRinT programme from a technical IT perspective. He has developed innovative technical solutions to enhance SPRinT courses, and has supported more than 90% of all SPRinT simulations. He is a faculty member of the introductory and advanced STeLI funded facilitators team training course, training NHS professionals on the technical challenges of running a simulation course.

Judy Cotterill

Judy completed the Boston Children's Hospital's simulator instructor workshop (Harvard University) in 2009 and is a trained London STELI Simulation Facilitator. She is currently Ward Manager/Lead Nurse for PACU & catheter labs and helps to lead the development of SPRinT within the Royal Brompton Hospital (RBHT). The SPRinT team has introduced simulation training in latent threats for multi-disciplinary teams focusing on improving communication in order to enhance team work in the workplace. Judy has also completed the Team Resource Management (TEREMA) master class on Human Factors (HF) and now facilitates workshops on this topic. This course provides knowledge, skills and understanding which enables every professional to perform at their best, to get the best from their team and from the tools, technology and systems which they use. Judy has presented and co-authored internationally several presentations and publications related to simulation, patient safety and human factors in the PACU environment. Judy is the ward manger/lead nurse of the post anaesthetic care unit (PACU) and catheter labs at the Royal Brompton Hospital, a leading tertiary centre in Europe for cardio thoracic surgery and respiratory medicine. Judy completed her nursing degree in Australia and has an intensive care (ICU), anaesthetic and recovery background in both adult and paediatrics.

Kumi De Costa

Kumi has been involved in SPRinT for over a decade now and was the founding nursing faculty for SPRinT back in 2008. She completed the Boston Children's Hospital's simulator instructor workshop (Harvard University) in 2009 and is a trained London STELI Simulation Facilitator (2008).

Malia Grant

Malia graduated in 2015 with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Children's Nursing and has been working in the PICU since. Having started as a new graduate nurse she has developed her skills and knowledge and is now a Deputy Sister on the unit. Malia is a competent ECMO specialist and CVVH nurse. She has a special interest in pain management and patient safety. Malia has been involved in a number of projects, most recently has been instrumental in implementing the Difficuly Airway Trolley. This project was presented at the World Airway Management Meeting (2019) and was shortlisted for a Quality Improvement award. She is currently studying for her MSc in Cardiorespiratory Nursing.

Ms Iryna Atamanyuk

Dr Atamanyuk is currently a Clinical Fellow in Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery at Royal Brompton Hospital in London. She obtained her MD in 2000 from the National Medical University, Kiev, Ukraine. She then worked at Paediatric and Neonatal Cardiac Surgery and Intensive Care in Amosov Institute and Ukrainian Childrens Cardiac Center in Kiev, Ukraine. With a Schollarship from the International Heart School she was a Fellow in Paediatric Cardial Surgery at Ospedale Infantile Regina Margherita in Turin, Italy in 2003-2004, and obtained Master degree in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery from the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna at University of Pisa in 2004. She completed her training in Cardiac Surgery in 2006 at the Institute of Postraduate Training in Kiev, Ukraine. From 2008 to 2010 she was a trainee in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and from 2010 to 2012 a Senior Clinical fellow in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery. Her main interest is neonatal heart surgery. I am interested in surgical education and have designed innovative models to enable cardiothoracic engagement in simulation. I have presented my findings nationally and internationally.
