For the purpose of obtaining a marine survey there are several circumstances that need to be met in order for insurance to be granted on boats. Most boats that are over 15 or 20 years old require a survey to be done on them for insurance purposes and many times the marina requires confirmation that the boat has insurance on it before dock space is rented to the owner of the boat.
