Dr Alastair Carlyle

Alastair graduated from the University of Queensland in 2003. He worked in the Republic of Ireland in general medicine and Cardiology, obtaining membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK). Upon return to Sydney, he undertook Cardiology training based at Prince of Wales Hospital and was the Interventional Fellow at Eastern Heart Clinic from 2013-2014. He joined Cardiology Associates in 2015 and has a sub-specialty interest in complex coronary intervention and cardiac complications in pregnancy. Alastair also has a special interest in Computed Tomography Coronary Angiogram (CTCA) testing, which he co-reports as the Specialist Cardiologist for various medical imaging companies. Qualifications BSc, MBBS, MRCP(UK), FRACP Alastair is a regular attendee at international cardiology conferences. He has an interest in teaching medical students and physician trainees as well as presenting to the local general practitioners and trainee Doctors. He has been working on research publications in the fields of radiation dosage and bioabsorbable stent technology.

David graduated from Medicine at the University of New South Wales in 2002 and completed his specialist training in Cardiology at Prince of Wales Hospital in 2010, after which he completed a fellowship year in echocardiography and imaging in 2011. David joined Cardiology Associates in 2012. He was appointed a staff specialist at The Sutherland Hospital in 2012 and has appointments at Sutherland Heart Clinic, Kareena Private, Eastern Heart Clinic, and Prince of Wales Private. He is also a conjoint lecturer of the Faculty of Medicine at University of NSW, a medical student examiner, and RACP local examiner. His clinical interests include cardiac imaging (echocardiography and CT coronary angiography), general Cardiology and medical education. Qualifications BSc (Med), MBBS, FRACP

Dr Emily Hodkinson

Dr Emily Hodkinson is a Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in electrophysiology and pacing. Emily is from Northern Ireland and graduated from the University of Manchester in 2004, following completion of their Medicine with French language programme. She went on to complete advance Cardiology training in Belfast and then came to Sydney to further her training. She completed research into inherited cardiac channelopathies, namely Long QT Syndrome, at the Victor Chang Institute. Emily then went on to complete advanced clinical fellowships in Cardiology and electrophysiology/pacing alongside leaders in electrophysiology in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney, as well as the Royal Brampton and Harefield Hospitals in London, where she gained further experience in atrial fibrillation ablation, congenital heart disease, and pacing. Emily is happy to accept referrals for general cardiology, electrophysiology and pacing, as well as palpitations, fainting and dizzy spells.

Dr George Youssef

George completed Cardiology training in 2006, with further sub-specialty training in echocardiography. George joined Cardiology Associates in 2006. He was appointed as Staff Specialist at St George Public hospital in 2007, where he is the Director of the echocardiography laboratory. Professional interests include cardiac imaging (echo and CT angiography) and general clinical Cardiology. He is an accredited, Level A, CT Coronary angiography specialist. Dr Mark Pitney

Mark Pitney is a nationally and internationally recognised procedural Cardiologist. He completed his Cardiology training after graduating from the University of NSW with honours in 1984. Recognising the importance of angioplasty, he was one of the first people in Australia to complete a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology. Known internationally for his interest in new stent designs and devices, along with radiation reduction and safety, his publications included the first reported cases of longitudinal stent deformation, which led to a universal change in stent design. Referrals are often made to him from other Cardiologists for complex care including new technology. Dr Pitney is currently a Staff Specialist at Prince of Wales Hospital and co-Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee for the Sutherland and Eastern Heart Clinics. He is also Head of Department at The Sutherland Hospital and Clinical Director of Sutherland Heart Clinic, as well as being a conjoint lecturer at University of NSW. Dr Pitney is very proud to have been involved in the training of many of Sydney's well-known Cardiologists. Dr Pitney has been a faculty member of numerous national and international meetings. He is the founding organiser of "Action Day", Australia's largest complications avoidance meeting, which is a yearly event attended by more than 700 people. He has been a driving force behind outcomes research, which provides data to the effectiveness of current procedures performed. He has authored and co-authored more than 100 manuscripts and presentations. He has also represented the Cardiology community in the Medicare reforms process. Dr Pitney was awarded an OAM in the Queen's Honours list in 2021. Qualifications MBBS (Hons)

Dr Robert Smith

Robert graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1979. He started physician training for 2 years at Johannesburg Hospital and completed his FRACP at Prince of Wales/Prince Henry Hospitals in 1986. He then went into Cardiology training at Prince Henry and completed his training in 1989. This was followed by two years of research in lipid abnormalities and coronary atherothrombosis. Robert founded what is now known as Cardiology Associates in 1991. Robert was appointed as a Cardiologist at Sutherland Hospital in 1991 and has fostered the growth of the Department of Cardiology over the last 30 years. Qualifications M.B.Bch (Hons), FRACP, FCSANZ Robert is the most senior specialist in the Department of Cardiology at Sutherland Hospital. He is an all-round cardiologist with wide ranging interests in Echocardiography, Cardiac Catheterisation, Clinical Cardiology, and general medicine. He is also involved in supervising undergraduate and post-graduate physician trainees, as well as advanced trainees in ongoing Cardiology education.

Dr Shiva Roy

Shiva graduated from Sydney University in 1990. After completing physician training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and advanced training in Cardiology and an imaging fellowship at Prince of Wales Hospital, Shiva has been a dedicated Cardiologist to the Sutherland Shire since 2001. He looks after a broad spectrum of adult cardiac patients and has specific interests in cardiac imaging and medical education. He performs transoesophageal echo and reports cardiac CT. He directs the echo service at Sutherland hospital where he is a senior staff specialist taking care of acute cardiac admissions in a busy on call roster. Qualifications MBBS, FRACP, DDU, FCSANZ.
