David Burke

Job Titles:
  • Adjunct Lecturer
David Burke is an adjunct lecturer (church history, applied theology, pastoral practice) and research fellow (cross-cultural studies). David was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1979 and has a long background in pastoral and educational work in Australia and S.E. Asia. He taught at Christ College part time from 1981-1999 and was on the full-time staff from 2011 to 2019. David is involved in several majority-world ministry training projects. David is married to Glenda, with whom he has an adult family.

Elliot Ku

Job Titles:

Elliot is an Adjunct Lecturer in church history. He also has the privilege of serving as a pastor at GracePoint Presbyterian Church (Lidcombe Campus) where he gets to see the Gospel lived out among God's redeemed people. Elliot is currently a student in the Doctor of Ministry program at Biola University (Talbot School of Theology). He is particularly interested in church history, preaching, the development of lay leaders for ministry, and the training of future Gospel workers. Elliot is married to Sherilyn and they love showing and speaking about the joys of following Jesus. Elliot, how has your theological education and career shaped you?

Eugene Hor

Eugene lectures in Preaching and Communication at Christ College. Eugene's areas of research are preaching, church planting and leadership development. As a minister of the Presbyterian Church, he currently leads the ministry team at GracePoint Presbyterian Church, a multi-site church community. He also serves as a coach to church planters for Reach Australia and was previously on the English Task Force of the Chinese Coordination Centre Of World Evangelism training and equipping church leaders and pastors in the Philippines. Eugene and his wife Pauline helped plant GracePoint in 1999. Eugene and Pauline have two adult, Joshua and Ashleigh. Eugene, how has your theological education and career shaped you?

Ian Smith

Job Titles:

Ian has been part of the Christ College faculty since 1995. Now, he is the Principal of Christ College and lecturer in New Testament and Greek Exegesis. Prior to this, Ian was the minister of Griffith Presbyterian Church and then served as a missionary with Australian Presbyterian World Mission in Vanuatu. He is married to Jenni, they have four adult children and love being grandparents to their four grandchildren. Ian, how has your theological education and career shaped you?

Kamal Weerakoon

Kamal was born in Sri Lanka and migrated to Australia as a teenager. He is now the missions director at Gracepoint Presbyterian Church. In the past he has been involved in reinforcing well-established ministry in a large, multi-staff church; revitalising a small, struggling church in a lower socio-economic area; contributing to the outreach ministry of an inner-city church seeking to reach socially progressive hipsters; ministry to churches of Arabic, Mediterranean, and Subcontinental background; and campus ministry with the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES).

Karen Lee

Murray Smith

Job Titles:
  • Lecturer in Biblical Theology & Exegesis
Murray is the Lecturer in Biblical Theology & Exegesis. Murray is also a guest lecturer in the Department of Hebrew Bible and Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney, where he co-teaches a unit on "Historical Jesus to Written Gospels". Murray's main research interests are in Jesus and the Gospels, biblical eschatology, biblical church government, and the relationship between biblical theology and systematic theology in the Reformed tradition. Murray's ministry experience includes his time as pastor of Kirkplace Presbyterian Church, and as a staff worker with the Sydney University Evangelical Union. He currently serves the Presbyterian Church of NSW as Convenor of the Committee for Elders and Deacons, and serves the wider church as a member of the United Evangelistic Council. He is an elder at Hornsby Presbyterian Church, where he takes particular responsibility for the Gospel Training (Christian Education) program. Murray is married to Lynette and they have five children. Murray, how has your theological education and career shaped you?

Paul F Cooper

Paul is a Research Fellow at Christ College and his current area of research is Philanthropy in Australian Colonial History. Prior to this he was Senior Minister of Beecroft (2004-13), full-time lecturer at the College (1990-2003), Senior Chaplain at The Scots College (1984-89) and minister of Tocumwal- Finley (1977-83). He has held various positions within the Presbyterian Church including Convener of Public Worship & Aids to Devotion Committee (1991-01), Convener of the NSW Presbyterian Social Services Committee (2002-10) and Convener of the NSW Theological Education Committee (2010-12). Before entering the ministry Paul was a Geologist with the Geological Survey, NSW Department of Mines. Paul is married to Megan and they have four adult children and one grandchild.

Peter Barnes

Peter Barnes is passionate about Church history, and history at large from a Christian perspective. He has written a biography of Athanasius, ‘Athanasius: His Life and Impact'. He has written on everything from plagues to B.B Warfield. Currently, he is researching Australian Presbyterian History. Prior to his time at Chirst College, Peter taught at the Presbyterian Bible College at Tangoa in Vanuatu. After this, Peter was the minister of the Presbyterian Nambucca River pastoral charge. During this time, he helped establish the Nambucca Valley Christian Community School and was chairman of the School Board. Peters PhD concerns the rise of liberal evangelism in the Presbyterian Church of NSW during the period of 1865-1915.

Siobhan Gibbins
