Daman S. Walia - CEO, President

Under his leadership, since 1988 Arctech has developed and commercialized innovative hazardous and waste treatment and recycling technologies and clean energy products for domestic and international markets focused on coal-derived humic substance products. Dr. Walia was Manager and Director of the Environmental Science & Technology Department at Atlantic Research Corp. where he was responsible for coordinating and overseeing research projects varying in size, scope and technical orientation. His field of concentration included fossil fuel energy with a focus on clean coal and coal conversion processes, and research in the environmental aspects of fossil fuel energy systems. Prior to joining Atlantic Research, he was Technical Director at United Coal Company. Between 1978 and 1981, he was a Fossil Energy Specialist with Oak Ridge Associated Universities. Dr. Walia earned a PhD, Mineral Sciences, Miami University (Ohio), an MS in Mineral Sciences from Miami University, an MS in Geology from Punjab University, and a BS in Geology and Chemistry from Punjab University. His professional affiliations include the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Defense Preparedness Association, Professional Environmental Marketing Association and the Hazardous Materials Control Research Institute.

Michael A. Cohen

Prior to joining Arctech in 2007, Dr. Cohen was VP of Marketing & Sales for HortiCreations, where he managed brands for a portfolio of horticultural products and developed new business opportunities. He also organized and managed national trade shows and regional customer support services. As Director of Business Development for Whites Nurseries & Greenhouses, was responsible for business development programs to enhance both market share and bottom line growth throughout the US of existing corporate business and the creation of new business opportunities in both traditional and non-traditional horticultural markets. Dr. Cohen was previously Director of Product/Business Development and Marketing for Five C's, where he was responsible for coordinating marketing and sales and support programs for products to mass merchandisers distributors, supermarkets, national garden centers, commercial growers and other horticultural clients nationwide. He controlled all product branding advertising campaigns to insure product identity and perceived added value of all product lines. As Manager of Product Development & Sales for O.M. Scott & Sons (NYSE: SMG), Dr. Cohen coordinated and managed new product development (fertilizer/pesticide, growth regulators, soil media, plant/seed) for Scott's professional specialty business. He developed Scott's first micronutrient product for commercial grower's nationwide and established a program for tissue and soil analysis. Dr. Cohen earned a PhD in Horticulture from the University of Maryland, an MS in Horticulture and Business from IOWA State University, and BS in Horticulture and Chemistry from the University of Rhode Island. He has authored more than 50 publications and articles and holds a patent for advanced micronutrient technology.

Nand Kaushik

Since joining ARCTECH in 1996, he has been involved in applied research, technology demonstration and commercialization, project management, and marketing and business development activities. He has led project dealing with the recycling of obsolete propellants for the US military and the treatment of hydrogen sulfide in sour natural gas. From 1987-96, he was a Senior Project Manager with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) dealing with a range of projects including management of the design of storm water pollution prevention measures for the US military, managed the remedial design of a groundwater treatment system, the performance of treatability studies for bioremediation of explosives wastes using composting, and demonstration and evaluation of an innovative soil treatment technology under the Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation (SITE) program. Mr. Kaushik earned a MS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Maryland and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology. His professional affiliations include the Society of Military Engineers, and the Society of Civil Engineers.

Richard A. Wolfe

He currently serves as President of Wolfe Engineering & Consultants, Inc. which provides technical and administrative support in the area of clean coal technology, coal gasification, coal to liquids technology, oil refining, biomass conversion, coal bed methane production, biotechnology, oil shale and tar sands. Mr. Wolfe earned a PhD and a MS in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He has done post graduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received a DSc (Honorary) from Emory and Henry College. He has published more than 100 scientific articles on clean technologies. He has been appointed by five different governors to the Virginia Coal and Energy Commission and has served for the past 29 years as a Board Member to Virginia Tech's Center for Coal and Energy Research. He served for 20 years as a Director of the Virginia Coal and Energy Council.

Richard P. Sommerfeld

Mr. Sommerfeld earned a Masters of Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a BA in International Studies from Virginia Tech. He serves on the Board of Visitors for the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

Robert E. Coakley

With more than 30 years of governmental affairs experience, he is a Principal with Coakley & Associates, a professional services, consulting, and lobbying firm that has enabled corporations, associations and non-profits to promote their interests through political, legislative and regulatory processes in Washington. Mr. Coakley has served on the staff of the House of Representatives Budget Committee and the Small Business Committee, the Senate's Governmental Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Practices, Budget and Accounting of the Governmental Affairs Committee. He served as Executive Director of the Council on Regulatory and Information Management. Mr. Coakley earned a BA from the University of Virginia and did graduate work towards a Masters in Public Administration at the University of Virginia.

Shaban I. Kotob

Prior to joining ARCTECH in 2000, Dr. Kotob was a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, The College of William and Mary. He was formerly a Research Associate with the US Food & Drug Administration. Dr. Kotob earned a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, an MS in Microbiology from the University of Maryland and a BS in Agriculture from University of Cairo, Egypt. He is the author or co-author of numerous research papers concerning anaerobic group of bacteria involved in organic matter degradation for production of natural products and natural gas for agricultural and environmental applications and other matters related to humic substances. He is a member of the American Society for Microbiology.
