Karen Burke was born and raised in upstate New York in a small, mill town much like Winthrop. The oldest of ten children, she was awarded a New York State Regent's Scholarship that allowed her to go to college. Attorney Burke earned a B.A. degree from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York in 1969; a Masters Degree from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont in 1980 on another scholarship; and a J.D. from Vermont Law School in South Roylton, Vermont in 1984. Upon graduation from Vermont Law School, Attorney Burke clerked for the Honorable Frederick A. Johnson at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Maine. Upon completion of her federal clerkship, Attorney Burke worked for Friedman & Babcock, a personal injury firm in Portland, Maine, before joining the litigation staff at Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson in 1986. Attorney Burke moved to Winthrop, Maine in May of 1987 while working out of Bernstein Shur's Augusta office. She opened her own solo practice in Winthrop in 1990 where she has practiced law to date.

Whitney Lind

Whitney Lind, a fifth generation Wayne, Maine resident, graduated from Monmouth Academy in 2010. Ms. Lind attended the University of New England and the University of Maine, Farmington. Ms. Lind has been employed at several animal shelters, specifically she was employed at PALS in Winthrop,ME; Coastal Maine Humane Society in Brunswick; and the Kennebec Valley Humane Society in Augusta,ME. Ms. Lind has also worked with disadvantaged toddlers in a pre-school in Gorham,Me. Her hobbies include caring for rescue animals, the culinary arts, and painting still lifes.
