Aart van Gorkum

Aart has been a Physiotherapist for 30 years. He holds an Advanced Diploma in Manual and Manipulative Therapy and has a keen interest in sports and orthopaedics. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia and teaches in the Masters of Physical Therapy (MPT) program at UBC. Furthermore, Aart is actively involved with the Physiotherapy Association of BC and served on the Board of Directors for 6 years. Aart (he, him) opened Main Street Physiotherapy Clinic in December, 2009. Aart has extensive experience working with athletes of all ages, elite and non-elite. He enjoys working with local sports teams, and was involved with the Vancouver Giants Major Junior Hockey Team for the first two years in Vancouver. Aart is involved with the Canadian National Men's Field Hockey Team. He has worked internationally and speaks Dutch, German and Spanish. Aart also does IMS. When he is not coaching a baseball team, Aart can be found pursuing one of his hobbies: golf, baseball, hockey or fishing. He is happily married and has two sons. Anne Montgomery

Anne (she, her) has been the Clinic Manager since 2013. With a background in counselling and teaching, and a Diploma in Business Administration, Anne brings an attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and a compassionate ear to the job. When not at the clinic, Anne spends time with her family and pets, in her garden or art studio.

Bryce Jay

Bryce (he, him) received a Masters in Physical Therapy at the University of Western Ontario after completing a Bachelor of Science at UBC. He has experience working with joint replacement rehabilitation (pre & post surgical procedures), sports related injuries, chronic muscle and joint pain, and sees ICBC and WorkSafe clients. Bryce also has completed Vestibular Rehabilitation training and can treat balance and dizziness issues, and concussions. Bryce uses a holistic approach with his clients, understanding that everyone is different and providing optimized treatment tailored to the individual client's needs. Outside of work, Bryce is a competitive Ultimate Frisbee player, and enjoys cycling, hiking and camping in beautiful BC. Bryce speaks some Spanish and Mandarin, and works Monday and Wednesday from 8am to 1pm, and Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 7pm. He is available to book online.

Jonathan Poon

Jonathan (he, him) completed his Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland in 2010 and had been working as a physiotherapist in Brisbane, Australia, until recently moving back to Vancouver. Prior to that he worked as a Registered Kinesiologist, following the completion of his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Certificate in Health and Fitness and Certificate of Applied Human Nutrition from Simon Fraser University in 2006. Jonathan has extensive training in Clinical Pilates and is a certified Pilates Rehab Instructor through Polestar Pilates. He is also certified in Musculoskeletal Acupuncture and Dry-needling through Combined Health. Jonathan has worked with patients of all ages and abilities, which has included some professional athletes and dancers. Sport and physical activity have played a large role throughout his life. Over the past 5 years Jonathan has been drawn to the mind-body benefits of yoga, which he practices almost daily. The combination of his work and personal practice experience has influenced the way he approaches his physiotherapy treatment. Jonathan has a holistic movement-focused approach to physiotherapy. Whether for pain, rehabilitation or performance, he uses a combination of manual therapy, exercise and other physiotherapy modalities to achieve optimal movement quality. Jonathan has a strong belief in an individualized approach to patient management and therefore emphasizes patient education and empowerment throughout his treatment. Jon currently works Monday and Wednesday from 1 to 7pm and is available to book online.

Kate Kennedy

Kate (she, her) completed her in BSc in Physiotherapy in 1990 from Queen's University and has been working in private practice and orthopaedics for over 30 years. She has been a Fellow of the Canadian Association of Manipulative Physical Therapists since 1996. She has a special interest in manual therapy, rehabilitation following cancer treatment, exercise, resilience, as well as breast health, pre- and postpartum care, and bone health. Kate is a Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC in the Department of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Medicine and is a senior instructor within the Canadian Physiotherapy Association's Orthopaedic Division, where she provides continuing education to practicing physiotherapists in manual therapy, exercise prescription and clinical reasoning. Kate's approach to treatment focuses on helping clients regain safe and healthy movement strategies, facilitated by manual therapy, exercise and patient education. Kate strives to create a safe space to treat and empower all bodies and all genders. Kate has lived in the Main Street area for over 15 years and loves working in such a dynamic community. When she's not working you can find Kate wrangling her teenagers, walking in the forest, baking, or reading a book. Kate works Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Manbir Sandhu

Manbir completed his Masters of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia in 2019, after receiving a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Victoria. Other completed courses include the Foundations IMS Dry Needling and Ortho Manual Therapy Level 1, with further manual therapy courses to come. Improving body movement is a key to alleviating pain and improving function. As a physiotherapist, Manbir is an advocate, a teacher and guide in people's rehabilitation journey as he believes no one should go through their pain or injury alone and working together is the best way to help people function at their best. He has a passion to help people find movement strategies that allow them to incorporate activity throughout their daily lives in order to move optimally.

Mike Wall

Mike (he, him) graduated with a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from UBC in 2007, joining Main Street Physiotherapy Clinic in 2010. He is certified in IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation) through Kinetacore. Mike's treatment style focuses on creating a positive physical change through manual therapy, soft tissue release and/or IMS to help reset, realign and rebalance the body. In order to ensure long-lasting results, corrective exercises and injury-specific education are always a part of Mike's treatments. He has experience working with sports teams, such as the UBC Men's Hockey team and Team Canada at the Maccabiah Games in Israel. Outside of work, Mike enjoys family time with his wife, 3 daughters and dog, playing hockey and golf, cooking, and following local sports teams. Mike works Monday to Friday, with a mix of morning and afternoon/evening shifts. He is available to book online, although Mike does not see WorkSafe clients.

Tony Cruz

Currently Tony is on leave/sabbatical until summer 2024 Since immigrating to Canada in 2011, Tony (he, him) has obtained a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Victoria and a Master of Physical Therapy degree from the University of British Columbia. Tony uses an education and client-centered exercise approach to Physiotherapy sessions. Tony's trauma-informed approach aims to help his clients with providing an understanding and reassurance for what may be going on with their bodies. Tony also holds a Level 1 Orthopaedic Manual Therapy certification and as of October 2022 is certified in IMS Dry Needling. Tony's clinical experience includes total knee and hip replacements, sports injuries, Parkinson's, and falls prevention, among others. His hope is to promote safety and improvements in independence while bringing a smile to your face. Tony has enjoyed working with the residents of Mount Pleasant, Kitsilano and Main Street for over 3 years. In this time, Tony has become a trusted referral source for clients looking for a Spanish speaking practitioner. Tony has made connections with local baseball players and athletes, and he also plays in the LMBA baseball league. Prior to coming to Canada, Tony was a high-level baseball player training under major league organizations in the Dominican Republic until deciding to pursue higher education. In his spare time Tony enjoys any sport with a ball, hosting dinner nights for his friends with his wife, volunteering at his church, keeping up with the latest technology, and working up a sweat in the beautiful outdoors of BC. Tony is fluent in English and Spanish, and works Monday and Thursdays from 1:30 to 7pm.

Yasmin Bains

Yasmin (she, her) completed her Master of Physical Therapy degree at the University of British Columbia. She has worked in hospitals and private clinics in her career. She has experience treating people before and after a variety of surgeries including joint replacements, open heart procedures, and cancer treatments. Yasmin has additional training in treating individuals with persistent or chronic pain, those at an increased risk of having a fall, and she can provide vestibular rehabilitation to help manage balance issues and dizziness. Yasmin's treatment approach focuses on helping individuals move with greater ease and less discomfort to participate in activities that are meaningful to them. She combines exercise, manual therapy, and education to help you feel empowered to do what brings you joy Yasmin works Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings, and is available to book online.
