Dr Rupert Williams

Dr Rupert Williams studied medicine at St George's University of London, graduating with a clinical distinction in 2006. After completing his foundation training in University College Hospital London, he was awarded an Academic Clinical Fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at St Thomas' Hospital, leading to completing a PhD in Cardiovascular Physiology in 2016 under Professors Marber and Redwood. This clinical PhD in coronary artery disease patients investigated the physiological adaptations that the heart undergoes during physical exertion: in particular the adverse adaptations that occur during cold air inhalation, and conversely the beneficial adaptations that occur after a period of warm up exercise. His work won the Young Investigator Award at the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society in 2016, and his PhD was nominated for the Elsevier outstanding thesis award.

Dr Simon Pearse

Dr Simon Pearse is an experienced consultant cardiologist who sees patients at his NHS practice at Kingston Hospital and St George's Hospital, where he is a key member of the cardiology team. He has a wide experience of general cardiology, and he also has a specialist interest in heart failure, pacemakers and complex device therapy. Dr Pearse is skilled at performing angiography and implanting pacemakers, Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillators (ICDs), Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy (CRT/biventricular pacing) and Implantable Loop Recorders (ILRs/Reveal devices). Dr Pearse graduated with distinction from Edinburgh University before completing foundation training in the west of Scotland. Dr Pearse had core medical training at Charing Cross and Hammersmith hospitals prior to training in cardiology on the north-west London rotation. This included specialist fellowships in heart failure and devices at Harefield and the Royal Brompton Hospital. Dr Pearse was awarded his MD (Res) from Imperial College London for research in heart failure, devices and sleep apnoea with Professor Cowie and the heart failure service at the Royal Brompton Hospital and National Heart and Lung Institute. Dr Pearse has an interest in medical education and is a member of the BCS Education Committee. He is an active researcher and is the UK Chief Investigator for the PERSEPOLIS study and was the co-investigator for the IRONMAN and ISCOMAT trials. Dr Pearse recently won a Greenshoots research award for his contribution. Dr Pearse has published in leading international journals and has presented at international conferences.

Dr Tapesh Pakrashi

Dr Tapesh Pakrashi studied Medicine at Magdalen College, Oxford and trained in Newcastle, Leeds and Cambridge before undertaking his Specialist Registrar Training in Cardiology in London, which included the Pan Thames Heart Failure Rotation at the Royal Brompton Hospital, Harefield Hospital and the Whittington Hospital. He has been a Consultant Cardiologist and the Heart Failure Lead at Kingston Hospital since 2012 and was a visiting consultant cardiologist at St George's Hospital between 2012 and 2015. Tapesh Pakrashi has an interest in all aspects of adult general cardiology, including heart failure, valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, cardiac imaging, arrhythmias and hypertension. He developed the Heart Failure Service at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Community Cardiology services in Kingston and in East Elmbridge.

Kas Naicker

Kas Naicker is a Cardiac Physiologist who graduated from the University of the Free State in South Africa in 2002. Since then, Kas has been working as a Cardiac Physiologist and Sonographer in the NHS working in hospitals across Greater London. Kas has been working as a Cardiac Physiologist at Kingston Hospital since 2014. Since then, Kas has taken on the additional responsibilities of Chief Physiologist and Lead Echocardiographer, managing all aspects of Cardiac Echo imaging within the Department.
