Having volunteered at various schools, centres and hospital units for children and young people with mental health problems or learning disabilities, I began working for Off The Record, the young people's charity in Bath. While working with this hugely diverse group, I learnt the importance of being able to provide young people with the time, space and encouragement to build enough trust to open up to me, and to help them find ways of coping better and looking forward to a more positive future.
