We were the only guests in town and were accommodated in a newly completed hotel directly on the lake. The Czechoslovakian hosts had somehow managed to obtain entry permits for colleagues from Sweden, East and West Germany, and Austria for an "Acoustics Congress" they were organizing, despite the Iron Curtain. Outside it was snowing and we all had the feeling that time was standing still.
