Chris Mattes

  • Registered Dental Hygienist
Chris is one of our registered dental hygienists at Be More Dental. Chris has been in dentistry for over 35 years and has been with our office for almost 20 years. She attended Essex Community College and completed her certificate in dental assisting in 1986 and then practiced as a certified dental assistant until she completed her dental hygiene program at Baltimore City Community College in 2003. It was at this time that Chris started at our office and began to serve our patient base by cleaning teeth and educating patients about their oral health and home care! Chris's favorite part about working in dentistry is engaging in conversation and stories with all of her patients. She shares that she is amazed with the change in technology that is present in our field of dentistry today! Chris remembers hand-developing film x-rays and taking goopy impressions and is constantly impressed by the technology of today's dentistry that makes the patient experience much more comfortable- digital x-rays and 3D-scanners which allow us to take digital models with no-goop-included, just to name a few. When Chris is out of the office, she enjoys hanging out with her family and enjoying the outdoors. Chris has been married to her husband, George, for over 27 years and has 2 teenage children. Chris also loves trying new recipes and occasionally taking on a new cross-stitch project.

Courtney Veney

Courtney is our receptionist. She is the energetic voice that you will hear on the phone and the first smiling face to greet you when you arrive at Be More Dental for your appointment. Courtney's upbeat personality is an integral part of our office culture and she is always on the ready to assist you in getting your intake paperwork done, your appointments scheduled, and so much more! Courtney is a graduate of Western High School and entered the dental field shortly after. She attributes her strong social skills to her on-the-job experience working in dental practices. Courtney is excellent at communication in the office and she is strong at bridging the connection between the front office and the back office. Courtney has been in dentistry for 9 years and has been with Be More Dental for about 3 years. Courtney's favorite part about her career is making people smile- both her patient's and coworkers, alike! In her free time, Courtney is very family-oriented and loves to spend quality time with her family. She also loves to draw and paint.

Crystal Brooks-Murray

Crystal is one of our registered dental hygienists at Be More Dental. She has been in dentistry for over 12 years and has been with our office for over 10 years of that time. Crystal attended Howard University for her bachelors degree in Biology on a full-ride scholarship in track and field! She then attended Baltimore City Community College for her dental hygiene program and graduated with honors to become a licensed dental hygienist. Crystal has extensive experience working in both pediatric dental offices with the little-ones and in general dental offices where she gets to improve the oral health of both children and adults alike. Crystal's favorite part about her career as a dental hygienist is having the satisfaction of being able to provide the absolute best dental care for her patients, especially the children. In her free time, Crystal can be found listening to music, drawing, working out, spending time with loved ones, and also learning to play the piano! Crystal hails from New York, but now calls Maryland home. She has been married to her husband Marlon Sr. for over 20 years and they have 2 wonderful children.

Dr. Amanda Hurley

Your comfort in our office is a priority to us and we assure you a safe and judgment-free space that truly feels like home. We value listening to your concerns and building relationships with you so that we can work together to create a treatment plan that is ideal for you. We don't want to work on you, we want to work with you to help you get the healthy and confident smile that you deserve and desire. We look forward to meeting you and to becoming your dental home! Dr. Hurley was born and raised in the small Northeastern Wisconsin peninsula known as Door County. She attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI for her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Sciences and Marquette University School of Dentistry for her Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude with both. During her time at Marquette, Dr. Hurley was awarded many honors including induction into Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society and the very prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. She was also recognized for academic excellence and outstanding leadership by the American Association of Women Dentists, was commemorated by the Milwaukee Odontological Academy for retaining top-five class ranking, was elected president of her chapter of Delta Sigma Delta Professional Dental Fraternity, was invited to participate in Marquette's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery honors program and was honorably commended by Marquette for clinical excellence in all aspects of patient care. Clinical excellence and advanced dentistry are pillars in Dr. Hurley's daily practice. Dr. Hurley is a true academic and she strongly values continued learning through some of dentistry's most esteemed institutes so that she may provide her patients with the most current and top-notch clinical care across all modalities of dentistry, creating a true "dental home" within her office. In dedication to providing you with the highest quality care available, Dr. Hurley has pursued hundreds of hours of advanced continuing education across all facets of general dentistry, with an extensive focus on cutting-edge, advanced, and safe practices of dental surgery and implant dentistry. Dr. Hurley has completed over 600 hours of advanced education in implant dentistry and oral surgery through some of the most distinguished training institutes in the country and world. She has placed hundreds of implants and has helped her patients restore their dentition by replacing single missing teeth, segments of teeth, and full-mouth smile-reconstructions with dental implants. Full-mouth smile reconstructions are Dr. Hurley's passion as her training in implant dentistry allows her to offer her patients confident, healthy, and realistic smiles that they never thought were possible. Dr. Hurley is currently working through the rigorous credentialing process of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and will soon become an associate fellow with the organization. She is also diligently working toward becoming a diplomate with the American Board of Oral Implantologists. Although dental surgery and implant dentistry are her true passion, Dr. Hurley enjoys providing her patients with all aspects of clinical care. Dr. Hurley has studied the delivery of cosmetic botulinum toxin and dermal fillers as well as TMJ/orofacial pain. She has also trained for many hours in clear aligner orthodontics and endodontics. Dr. Hurley is a dedicated member in the Academy of General Dentistry and will soon achieve her fellowship award with the academy due to her dedication to advanced post-graduate training across all aspects of general dentistry. Dr. Hurley holds humanitarian service and giving back through dentistry very near to her heart. She has traveled to Honduras and Nicaragua on several mission trips providing dental treatment to local villages in dire need of care. Dr. Hurley understands that the need for community service through dentistry is everywhere, including right here in Baltimore, and she strives to provide dentistry that will better her patients' lives each day. She looks forward to serving the Canton community through dentistry and being more to the community than just another dental practice. Dr. Hurley and her husband Matt met at Marquette University through a service trip to Honduras and got married a few years later. They moved to Maryland in 2018 and they quickly fell in love with Baltimore City and knew that they were here to stay. They now call Upper Fells Point home, where they reside with their 105 lb rescue dog, Cosmo. In her free time, Dr. Hurley enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, being active and being outdoors. When not in the office or attending a continuing education course, she can be found hiking, camping, biking, reading, working out at the Merritt Club in Canton, hitting a SolidCore class, or just walking Cosmo around Patterson Park. If you see her out and about, she invites you to stop and say hello! It has always been Dr. Hurley's dream to practice dentistry within her own community and serve the dental needs of her own neighbors and friends, and she could not be more delighted to have landed here in Canton. She hopes to see you in or out of the office soon!

Dr. Jessica Wears

Dr. Wears was born and raised in Harleysville, PA, a small town inNorth Eastern Pennsylvania. Dr. Wears moved to Baltimore to complete her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at Loyola University Maryland where she fell in love with the city. She continued her education in Omaha, Nebraska to complete her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Creighton University School of Dentistry. During her time at Creighton Dr. Wears was a member of the American Association of Women Dentists, the Special Care Dental Society, and the Healthy Smiles Elementary School Dental program. She found joy in working with other health care providers performing dental screenings in local schools throughout the community and wishes to do the same in Baltimore. She is passionate about giving back to the community and is committed to provide dental care to those in need. It is important to Dr. Wears to build long-term care relationships and to create the most comfortable environment for her patients. Since graduating, Dr. Wears has completed advanced training in clear aligner orthodontics, which is a sector of dentistry she is very enthusiastic about. Dr. Wears met her husband during their time at Loyola University. They are now happily living in Fells Point. Her and her husband enjoy spending time outside running and walking near the water with their cocker spaniel Colby. When out of office she can be found enjoying time at the beach, working out, at an indoor cycling class, doing yoga, reading on the deck or in her kitchen trying new recipes. Dr. Wears is excited to be working close to home in the community she loves. She is committed to patient-centered, individualized care and looks forward to seeing you in the office!

Noelani Johnson

Noelani is one of our certified dental assistants. You will meet her chairside during visits to our office. Noelani has been in dentistry for 1.5 years and has been with our office for just under a year, but we feel like she has been a part of our team forever! Noelani received her training at All-State Career School where she earned her dental assistant certification. She feels that her training was a great preparation for real-world dentistry! Her favorite part about her career in dentistry is knowing that she can help people relieve pain. She also loves to teach her patients about their oral health and loves to encourage proper hygiene. When she is not working at the office, Noelani enjoys cooking, reading, traveling to new places, and spending time with her family. In her future, she has aspirations to become a dental hygienist.

Princess Hadassah Sims

Princess is one of our certified dental assistants at Be More Dental. She has been in dentistry for almost 2 years now, and she has been with our office for about a year of that time. Princess attended Patapsco High School and Sollers Point Technical School where she graduated with her cosmetology license. She then went on to All-State Career School where she graduated with her dental assisting certificate. Princess is an academic at heart and has diligently earned her certification as a dental radiology technician as well. Princess's most loved focus-areas in dentistry are cosmetics and orthodontics. She also enjoys assisting with restorative procedures such as resin/tooth colored fillings and crown preparations. Princess states that her absolute favorite thing to do is fabricate temporary crowns for patients as she loves the chairside customization aspect. She is a very caring presence in the operatory and she loves feedback from her patients as she believes that there is nothing more rewarding than hearing that her patients are happy and pleased with their dental care. In her free time, Princess likes to hang out with her boyfriend, eat good food, and go on social outings. She also loves watching movies and shopping.

Stacie Carrington

Stacie is our office manager at Be More Dental. You will meet her during your intake and check-out processes during your visits to the office. She will help you understand your treatment plan, your needed appointments, and your dental benefits. She keeps our office running smoothly on the daily and she is our expert in dental insurance. Stacie has been in dentistry for more than 30 years and has been with our office for over 20 years of that time, so she is a very experienced and knowledgeable part of our team! Stacie is a Baltimore native and a graduate of Western High School in Baltimore. She then continued on to the University of Phoenix for her bachelors degree in Business and Healthcare Information Systems. Stacie then went on to earn her Masters in Business Administration (MBA). Stacie's favorite part about working in dentistry is getting to know her patients and helping them better understand their dental benefits. When not in the office, Stacie loves spending time with family, playing with her 2 kittens, shopping, and reading.
