Caroline Nicholas

Job Titles:
  • Therapist, Supervisor, Tutor / DIRECTOR
Caroline is an Integrative Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor and Trainer with 25+ years experience, and teaches Level 5 Dip in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and 6 Dip in Clinical Supervision at Langley Training. "My experience includes working for roughly 10 years in the NHS, with Rape Crisis, schools and education centres, a variety of residential addiction treatment centres and private practice. I have also taught counselling and psychotherapy in a number of Further Education colleges. Originally, I come from a small welsh mining village and, despite the freedom and safety, there were times when I struggled growing up. Feeling a lack of autonomy there I left to study Sociology at East London University at 18 years old. This was where an interest in social psychology was sparked for me. However, it wasn't until my late twenties, after a few years of unfulfilling employment, that I began to follow my goal again. I began by volunteering for a telephone counselling service based in East London, where I learned some of the skills I would later teach. It was definitely and ‘in at the deep end' approach! I am an Integrative Psychotherapist and Supervisor. My experience is varied, having worked for a Primary Care Trust in the NHS in East London for many years. Clients were referred by their G.P.'s suffering from a variety of mental health issues. The organisation offered short term therapy in the main, but also provided long term therapy, private therapy, couples, family and group therapy. I was fortunate enough to work in all of these fields and have experience of working with, children through art/play therapy, young people, couples, families, adults - some with special needs and physical disabilities, as well as facilitating therapy groups and long term support groups. Within Supervision, I gained my PG Clinical Supervision Diploma in 2003 and work with supervision groups and individual supervisees. I have really enjoyed working with trainee counsellors over the years, and watching their progress as their confidence grows. The other side of my work has now become more involved. I began teaching counselling in 2001 and have taught all levels of structured counsellor training programmes within further education colleges, from Introduction to Supervision. In 2016 I set up Langley Training, an independent training centre that offers a variety of counsellor training. We offer courses from Level 1, Introduction, to Level 6 Diploma in Clinical Supervision, as well as CPPD workshops for qualified therapists. I find working with students, and all therapists in this capacity, very rewarding".

Christine Cartwright

Job Titles:
  • Therapist, Supervisor & Tutor
Chris is a therapist and clinical supervisor, who teaches the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at Langley Training. I am very excited to be part of Langley Training as a tutor. My husband is a church minister and although I'm not a very traditional minister's wife, I began my counselling training hoping to be more effective in listening to the high number of people in the church we encountered with pastoral issues. I also worked in special education supporting young people with behavioural challenges. I qualified as a counsellor in 2008, and went on to coordinate a counselling service for young people across Bucks for the next 10 years. Here I had the privilege of supporting many counsellors in training and working with young people within agency and school settings. I also shared responsibility for the safeguarding training and offered workshops to our counsellors. In 2016, I decided it was time to return to some study and, having done a Person Centred Diploma and a CBT Certificate, decided it was time to find out more about the Psycho-analytical approach. Having heard very positive feedback about Langley Training, I enrolled onto the Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I then went onto complete the Level 6 Diploma in Supervision in 2018 with Langley. I have been in private practice since 2016. I also work part time at a school for teenagers with learning difficulties as a counsellor. I am passionate about counselling and the therapeutic relationship, which I believe can unlock so many difficulties people face, and enable them to move forward, enjoying deeper and more meaningful relationships and gain a greater depth of self awareness. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking our two dogs and looking after our growing number of hens. "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."

Lynn McGill

Job Titles:
  • Counsellor, Supervisor & Peripatetic Tutor
Lynn is an integrative counsellor and clinical supervisor who offers casual sessions with Langley Training, plus group supervision for the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling students. Following qualification in 2012, I realised my passion was to pass on the knowledge and information I had gained during counselling training, which opened up a pathway of discovery to my own personal development. This was around the concept of ‘what makes us tick' as individuals and how we can become the best possible versions of ourselves using that knowledge. So I undertook and gained a qualification in Training and Education, whilst teaching counselling on an Access to Higher Education course. It has been a privilege to be part of students' journeys of personal discovery and learning, and has taught me many new lessons myself as part of that process - as humans we never stop learning! Even if your journey is not to become a counsellor, but to have a better understanding of listening, communication, who you are as an individual and how you interact with others, the skills and information gained in counsellor training is invaluable. As part of my working history I have worked in recruitment and also as an estate agent, and used the many transferable counselling skills successfully. I have experience of working as a school counsellor as well as in agency settings and private practice, working with young people, individuals and couples. I am delighted to be part of Langley Training, where I have gained many further hours of training myself, including Couples Counsellor Training and my Clinical Supervision Diploma. This has allowed me to widen the group of people I can work with. I really enjoy working as part of the team and I feel open to many new areas of learning along the way!

Richard Bird

Job Titles:
  • Therapist, Supervisor & Peripatetic Tutor
Richard is a therapist, clinical supervisor and offers casual sessions with Langley Training. I was pleased to be join Langley training as a tutor in 2021. I am an integrative counsellor and supervisor in private practice, based in Harpenden, in Hertfordshire. Counselling is a second career for me. Previously I spent 3 decades working in the City of London for major banks such as Barclays, Deutsche bank and the mighty Lehman Brothers, as a bond trader. Prior to this my degree was in Social Sciences - I always had a curiosity in human behaviour, and would often find myself nosing around the psychology and self help sections of the bookshops in the City. As time went on, I began to query if I was in the right place and made a decision to enrol on an Introduction to Counselling course and one thing led to another! I well remember what it is like to be a student, and my ethos is that I will go the extra mile to make sure that students achieve their goals.

Samantha Manley

Job Titles:
  • Therapist, Supervisor & Tutor

Sarah Bryant

Sarah is a Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor who teaches the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling Years 1 and 2 with Langley Training. " My experience includes counselling for local schools and working with national charities, including Mind and Cruse Bereavement Care. I have set up and run a counselling service for a local family centre, and been a member of Cruse committee, which included assessment and referral as well as organising training for volunteers. I currently have a private practice and work as a school counsellor. I have tutored for Langley Training since 2018. Born and raised around Aylesbury, I first became interested in education when I started volunteering at a local primary school whilst undertaking my A levels. At the end of 6th form I moved on to Cambridge to study Education and Chemistry for the next four years. During my time at Cambridge I was fortunate enough to receive tutelage from some of the brightest minds in education, at that time, and I became particularly interested in child development, child psychology and how external factors impacted on a child's ability to learn. After pausing my teaching career to raise my family I started to look for a path to return to teaching and chose to study Counselling Skills. I soon became completely hooked. I still remember being interviewed by Caroline for my Level 4 Diploma, and telling her that what had started out as icing on the cake had switched for me and had become the cake.

Sue Day

Job Titles:
  • Therapist, Supervisor & Tutor
Sue is an Integrative Psychotherapist, clinical supervisor and offers Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counseling with Langley Training. I was born and grew up in North West London and still consider myself to be a bit of a city girl, even though I have now lived in Buckinghamshire for 15 years. I didn't enjoy secondary school and left at 16, continuing my education at adult evening classes. In my twenties, I completed a degree in Social Sciences, and although at the time I was much more interested in the role and impact that society has on individuals, I really enjoyed the psychology component. In my early thirties, I worked as a teaching assistant supporting children with Speech and Language difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Condition before moving into local government as a Senior Officer for Special Educational Needs. This role gave me my first experience in training others and delivering presentations. Following a career break I signed up for a Level 2 CPCAB Counselling Skills course, and was soon hooked and on my way to becoming a counsellor. My experience includes work in a local secondary school, Cruse Bereavement Care and One Recovery/Oasis Partnership Addiction Services. During the CPCAB Level 5 in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, which I studied with Langley Training, I set up my private practice. I was so impressed with how supported I felt and how professionally the course was run. It inspired me to become a counselling tutor myself. I am a strong believer in life long learning, and there is always so much more to discover, particularly in this field. I am thrilled to be able to be a part of the team and I am sure I will learn so much from my students, and I hope they will learn from me!
