Albert Herrera - President

Dr. Herrera joined Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in 1989. He has been serving as its President since 2008 while practicing at our Lorton location. Dr. Herrera began his residency at Yale University- St. Vincent's Medical Center and finished at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and was on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Society of Medicine, the Doctors Health Medical Group and the Medtrust Medical Group. He also served as the Chairman of the Department of Medicine of Inova Mt. Vernon Hospital and was on the Board of Directors at INOVA-Signature Partners Accountable Care Organization. He has also been serving as the Medical Director of Manor Care Alexandria and Arlington Nursing Center.

Brenda Rolander

Mrs. Rolander joined Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in 2006. She is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and received her Master's Degree from the George Mason University/George Washington University Collaborative Nurse Practitioner Program. Prior to joining Mount Vernon Internal Medicine, she spent 20 years at Inova Alexandria Hospital as a nurse in the Adult and Neonatal Critical Care Units.

Dr. Malini joined Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in 2012. He is board certified in Internal Medicine. He received his medical doctorate from Escola de Medicina Da Santa Casa da Misericordia in Brasil. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency training at Roger Williams Hospital-Boston University affiliated with Rhode Island. Prior to joining Mount Vernon Internal Medicine, Dr. Malini was a hospitalist at Medstar Saint Mary's Hospital in Southern Maryland.

Mark Sullivan

Dr. Sullivan joined Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in 2020. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Pre-professional studies from the University of Notre Dame. He earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He pursued his internal medicine residency training at Stony Brook University Hospital where he served on faculty and was involved in the education of residents and students prior to joining the team at Mount Vernon Internal Medicine. Dr. Sullivan is fluent in Spanish. He has a Master of Arts degree in Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care, and Bioethics from Stony Brook University. He also has additional training and experience in cardiovascular medicine. He is an internal medicine physician with interests in preventative medicine, comprehensive evaluation and care of acute and chronic illnesses, and health education. He cherishes the privilege of building trusting relationships with his patients in order to understand their unique stories and empower them to achieve health and well-being.

Raymond Murow

Dr. Murow joined Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in 2009 through a merger with Internal Medicine Associates of Northern Virginia. Dr. Murow received his Doctorate from Georgetown Medical School, completed his residency in Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and his residency in Internal Medicine at Georgetown Hospital. Dr. Murow currently practices Internal Medicine with a sub-specialty in Dermatology. Dr. Murow served in the United States Army Medical Corps as a Major and was stationed at Fort Meade in Maryland.

Simon Lwin

Dr. Lwin joined Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in 2008. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Lwin received his Doctorate from the Institute of Medicine in Yangon, Myanmar. He completed his residency at Woodhall Medicine and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Lwin is fluent in Burmese. Prior to joining Mount Vernon Internal Medicine, Dr. Lwin was a hospitalist at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, New York.

Stephanie Carter - VP

Dr. Carter is a native of Washington D.C. and joined Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in 1999 and has served as the Vice President since 2008. She received her medical degree from The University of Colorado, School of Medicine. She served a tour in the Army, completing her Internal Medicine Internship at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon (Augusta), Georgia. She went on to serve at duty stations in Camp Humphrey, Korea and Fort McPherson, Georgia. After completing her military commitment, she finished her residency at the Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia, where she also served as a Chief Resident. After her residency, she returned to the D.C. Area and worked briefly with George Washington University before joining Mount Vernon Internal Medicine. She is the Medical Director at Belvoir Woods Healthcare Center where she cares for patients in the nursing and assisted living facilities. Her special interests are geriatrics and the management of chronic health care issues.

Virginia Elesho

Prior to joining Mount Vernon Internal Medicine, Dr. Elesho practiced at the VA Medical Center in Salem, VA and George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC.
