Dr. Alvaro Alonso

Dr. Alvaro Alonso is a Cardiology Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Hospital in Worcester, MA. He is a graduate of the School of Medicine of the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City. Since high school, he has worked as a volunteer with different non-profit organizations in Mexico. Among other projects, Dr. Alonso has collaborated in an innovative telemedicine program and a continuing medical education program for physicians living in underserved areas. His areas of interest in medicine include medical education, bioethics, cardiovascular disease and kidney disease. Dr. Alonso did his residency training in Internal Medicine at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, MA. He and his wife live in Boston.

Dr. Georgina Pérez-Liz - Chairman

Born in Mexico City, Dr. Georgina Pérez-Liz graduated from the Medical School of the Universidad Panamericana in July 2004. Georgina served as Chair of the NAEIF Board of Directors from 2006 to 2010. She has most recently worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Neuroscience at Temple School of Medicine, where she has authored and co-authored several papers. As an undergraduate, she volunteered in several medical assistance programs to benefit indigenous communities. Georgina performed her obligatory community service year in Tlapa, Guerrero, one of the poorest indigenous regions of her country. In April 2004 she was the keynote speaker at a "GlobeMed" national student conference held in Chicago, where she spoke on learning about human dignity and service. NAEIF sponsored her trip to that meeting. Thereafter Georgina proposed and organized a "Pan-American Symposium about Solidarity and Volunteerism" for university leaders that took place in Mexico City in 2005. NAEIF was the major co-sponsor of this weekend event. Following graduation, Dr. Pérez-Liz served for two years as Medical Director of the Mazahua Foundation, an NGO that serves indigenous communities north of Mexico City.

Dr. Gregorio T. Obrador - Founder

Born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Dr. Obrador is a graduate of the medical school of the Universidad de Navarra in Spain. Having been trained in internal medicine at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital and in nephrology at Boston University Medical Center, Dr. Obrador is board certified in both specialties by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also did a Fellowship in Clinical Research at the New England Medical Center & Tufts University School of Medicine and earned a Master's Degree in Public Health from the School of Public Health at Harvard University. In addition to his work as Dean of Academic Affairs at the School of Medicine of the Universidad Panamericana, Dr. Obrador is an active researcher at the Tufts-New England Medical Center on the management of patients with chronic kidney disease. He is also a member of the National Kidney Foundation's "Kidney Disease Quality Outcomes Initiative" and it's "Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes for the Development of Clinical Practice Guidelines."

Mr. Douglas G. Klatt

Doug Klatt received his BA in history from Loyola University in 1992. He has traveled extensively throughout Mexico, Central America, Europe and Asia, participating in service projects in locales as exotic as New Delhi with the Sisters of Charity and teaching in northeastern Spain. Klatt received his Master's Degree in history from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City in 2003. His thesis was about the idea of the "Conquest as crusade" in the work of one of the chroniclers of the Conquest of Mexico. There he taught French, history, philosophy, and Spanish for three years. Doug has eleven years of teaching experience in history, music, philosophy, and Spanish in private and public schools. Klatt is also an accomplished singer, musician and composer who gives guitar and piano classes in his spare time. He is presently teaching at Western Academy in Houston, Texas. Doug with his wife have four children.

Mr. Theodore S. Wills - President

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Ted Wills is an "educational entrepreneur" with administrative and teacher/trainer experience in corporate and private education in both Mexico and the United States. Beginning in 1986, he organized and led several student summer service projects to Mexico. In 1998, Wills received MBA's from both The University of Texas at Austin and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Mexico City campus), thanks to a unique institutional collaboration. Since August 2000, he has raised more than $26 million dollars for charitable causes, churches, and schools around the country. For several years, Ted was the proud "Godfather" of a championship youth soccer team in Mexico City. Wills serves on the President's Council of DeSales University and on the Board of Advisors of the Aquinas House Catolic Center at Dartmouth College. Mr. Thomas Méndez

Thomas Méndez is a 2009-2010 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar studying International Political Economy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In addition to delivering presentations to various Argentinean Rotary Clubs and creating partnerships for collaborative international projects, Méndez has been assisting in the installment of computers in rural schools in southern Argentina through the NGO Project Patagonia. Tom recently joined the International College of American Nursing's (ICAN) U.S.-based team, helping with a variety of marketing and partnership formation related tasks. Together with two classmates, he has co-founded the Houston-based "The Paideia Institute," whose mission it is to help prepare promising Houston-area high school leaders into becoming outstanding university leaders versed in their cultural heritage and the promise of engaging in a multi-cultural world. A Summa Cum Laude Honors Program graduate from the University of St. Thomas in 2009, Méndez holds a degree in International Studies and a minor in Spanish and Latin American & Latino Studies. Among his many undergraduate achievements and awards, Méndez was a founding board member and president of the UST MicroCredit Program. This student-run organization has established partnerships with various international non-profits. Tom was chosen as the UST Commencement Speaker for the spring of 2009. Thomas G. Hardy

Throughout his career, Tom Hardy has served others as a teacher, school headmaster, and educational consultant. He specializes in the areas of school governance and curriculum design. While living in Chicago, Hardy was both educational director and a teacher at Midtown Center, a renowned after-school program for underserved boys. More recently, he co-founded Visitation House in Worcester, Massachusetts, for expectant mothers in crisis where he is a member of the Board of Directors. Tom is currently writing a pioneering textbook on science and technology for junior high school and high school students. A foundational advocate of NAEIF, he has since been a constant font of creativity, encouragement, and wisdom. A Worcester resident, Tom and his wife have nine children and many grandchildren.
