John H. Willis

Job Titles:

Dr. Willis, the newest member of PENTA's physician team, joined the practice in September of 2015. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University, the Wake Forest University Medical School and completed his Otolaryngology residency at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Willis is a native of North Carolina's Outer Banks. He and his wife, Shau Shau, an anesthesiologist, are proud parents of two children, one boy and one girl. His interests include fishing, surfing, hiking and spending time with his family.

Kenneth S. Maxwell

Originally part of Forsyth Head & Neck, Dr. Maxwell joined PENTA in July of 1999 with the merger of Salem Ear, Nose & Throat Associates and Forsyth Head & Neck. He is a graduate of East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Maxwell completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Connecticut, and completed his fellowship in Neurotology with the Midwest Otologic Group. He is Board Certified in Otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Maxwell is a veteran of the United States Navy, having served as a Hospital Corpsman, and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Naval Reserve. He, and his wife Tracey, have two sons. In his spare time, Dr. Maxwell enjoys traveling with his family and hiking.

S. Andrew Harper

Dr. Harper joined PENTA in August of 2000. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, undergraduate and medical school, and complete his residency in Otolaryngology at the Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Harper is Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He and his wife, Katherine, a Winston-Salem native, and pediatrician, have one son and two daughters. In his spare time, Dr. Harper enjoys fishing, woodworking, golf and cheering for the Tar Heels.

William F. McGuirt

Dr. McGuirt joined PENTA in July of 2002. He is a graduate of Davidson College and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. McGuirt completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by his fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Boston Children's Hospital, where he also served as an instructor in the Harvard Medical System. He is Board Certified in Otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. Dr. McGuirt and his wife, Robin, have five children. In his spare time, Dr. McGuirt enjoys tropical fish and coral, and has a large aquarium in his home. He loves Carolina basketball and retreating to the family farm in Lumberton, NC.
