RICE

Rice (Khao) is not only the food of Thailand, it is a fundamental part of Thai life, essential to its culture and traditions. The greeting "Kin khao laew rue yang?" means "How are you?," but is translated as "Have you eaten rice yet?" Rice is not just part of a meal, it is the meal. Other dishes are accompaniments... A very fresh green leaf, shred carrot, red cabbage, fresh bean sprout, partly fried tofu and basil leaf wrapped in soft rice paper served with peanut sauce and ground peanut topped sweet and sour sauce...
