SERVICE GIVING

The first question to ask in thinking about giving: What are your values and beliefs?... After watching her daughters and their friends navigate community service requirements, and after helping them make their first charitable donations, a New York City parent felt something was missing. Students understood their schools' rationales for creating community service requirements, and they expected religious organizations or friends to engage them in charitable giving, but their understanding was incomplete. They lacked information about the nonprofit sector in general, and didn't have the tools to evaluate specific opportunities for volunteering or giving.
