She's got 10 years experience in communications and community engagement with a focus on bringing together support for a cause. If Alia looks familiar, you may have seen her on stage hosting local fundraisers or sharing her experiences through comedy. She joins us as a community activator and project coordinator.

Meet AWES Program Coordinator Destiny Gauthier, Often Destiny will be the first point of contact with AWES. She manages stakeholder inquires and works with land managers interested in developing restoration projects. With a background in environmental sciences and public outreach, Destiny supports development and delivery of community outreach programs as well. In her free time, Destiny enjoys hiking and spending time at the lake kayaking.

Emily Purvis

Emily has joined AWES as their Restoration Manager in collaboration with the Oldman Watershed Council. She is piloting this split role to plan and implement restoration projects in southern Alberta. Emily is passionate about habitat restoration and species at risk recovery, and possesses a strong background in research, monitoring, and project management related to those fields. Emily is looking forward to strengthening connections with diverse land managers in the south and working with them to facilitate beneficial change on the landscape.

Megan McFall is the Interim Executive Director at AWES. She holds a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental & Conservation Sciences from the University of Alberta and a diploma from NAIT in Biological Sciences - Renewable Resources. Megan is a registered Professional Biologist with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists, and she exhibits over a decade's experience in the delivery of environmental assessment programs, aquatic habitat assessments, regulatory applications and environmental education. She has had extensive practice in the environmental industry ranging from stewardship programs, non-profit organizations, municipal government and environmental consulting.

Tomas Sokolon

Tomas Sokolon is the Interim Program Director at AWES. He holds a Master of Science in Environmental Practice from Royal Roads University and is a Registered Professional Biologist. Tomas has a background in silviculture and has supervised the planting of over 6,000,000 seedlings across 6 provinces. He has managed restoration projects for forestry, oil & gas, mining, and non-productive agricultural sites.

Winston joins AWES with expertise in horticulture, agroecology, and agroforestry. He has a passion for all things gardening, especially perennial crops and tree fruit crops. He loves exploring the ways trees and human systems interact and planning resilient systems. With a background in biochemistry and biology, years of experience in horticulture, and perspective from being raised on a farm, Winston helps to support our shelterbelt and agroforestry projects as well as our extension work.
