Carina Monico Carina was a postdoc in the lab working on the assembly of pore-forming toxins and the development of new single-molecule methods.

Charlotte Dodson Charlotte

Charlotte Dodson Charlotte was a PDRA in the lab. As a talented biochemist she mastered single-molecule methods, and now uses them to study novel kinases, as a Research Fellow at Imperial 2013-2018 and more recently as University Lecturer University of Bath.

Christopher Parperis Christopher

Christopher Parperis Christopher joined the Wallace group in 2017. Working in collaboration with Oxford Nanopore Technologies his PhD research looks to develop new methods to examine the mechanism of DNA sensing in protein nanopores. Chris is a champion cheese roller.

Daisy Rogers-Simmonds Daisy

Daisy Rogers-Simmonds Daisy joins us through the Institute of Chemical Biology CDT programme. She works between the Wallace Group and the Membrane Biophysics Group at Imperial College in collaboration with Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Her research interests lie in the development and study of droplet interface bilayers using block copolymers, and the subsequent incorporation of nanopores into these systems. Prior to joining the group, Daisy obtained a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from Imperial College. Daisy has a keen interest in and passion for public outreach and science communication, and recently began voluntary work as a STEM Ambassador alongside her studies.

Eve Weatherill Eve

Eve Weatherill Eve is a former PhD student, now senior PDRA. Her work has encompassed membrane protein folding, ion channel gating, and new methods for nanopore stochastic sensing.

Guanzhong Zhai

⊕ Guanzong Zhai Supported by the King's-China Scholarship Council PhD Scholarship programme (K-CSC), Guanzhong Zhai joins the Wallace group working on on new methods for artificial cell fabrication.

Hajra Basit Hajra

Hajra Basit Hajra joined the Wallace group in Oxford on a Marie Curie IE fellowship in July 2014. In her time in the Wallace group, she studied the twin-arginine transport system, both, in vivo and in vitro. She then obtained a John Fell fund in collaboration with Simon Newstead, to extend this work to studying other transporter proteins of the MFS type in artificial bilayers, using single-molecule FRET.

Jason Sengel

⊕ Jason Sengel Jason first joined the group as a Part II student in Oxford. He is currently a senior postdoc working to develop new methods for optical single-channel recording, new methods of artificial lipid bilayer generation, and the mechanisms underpinning protein toxins.

Joanne Carniello Jo studied Maths and Business Management as an undergraduate at King's College London, then worked in finance for many years. She decided to return to study. In 2017, she joined the Wallace group as a gradute student working on neurotoxin function.

Matthew Baker Matt

Matthew Baker Matt was a PDRA in the lab. He brought a physics background which we supplemented with early super-resolved imaging in live bacteria. We also had fun supporting Matt's strong passion for science communication, now sustained in an independent position as Scientia Research Fellow in the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of New South Wales. In 2018 Matt won the UNSW Dean's Award for Excellence in Science Communication.

Steven Vanuytsel

⊕ Steven Vanuytsel Steven joined the Wallace group at King's in October 2018 after spending one year of PhD-work at the University of Antwerp in the combined fields of oncology and plasma science. During his time in the Wallace group, Steven will explore the possibilities of combining single-molecule FRET and optical single-channel recording for simultaneous event detection, and apply it to elucidate structure-function relationships of transmembrane channels and pores.

Vivek Ramakrishnan Vivek was a PhD student in the lab working on membrane diffusion and confinement.

Vivien Walter Vivien

Vivien Walter Vivien joined the Wallace group in London in 2018. His research, funded by Oxford Nanopore Technologies, explore nanopore sensing via Interferometric Scattering (iSCAT) microscopy. Vivien defended his PhD at Charles Sadron Institute in Strasbourg in 2017 on the lipid membrane interactions with self-assembling cell-penetrating peptides; under the supervision of Dr Carlos Marques. He made a first postdoc on the membrane-saccharide interaction with Dr Fabrice Thalmann and Dr Carlos Marques. Vivien is a certified Physics and Chemistry high-school teacher in France (CAPES).

Yujie Guo Yujie

Yujie Guo Yujie joined the lab in 2019 as a PhD student as part of the King's-China Scholarship Council PhD Scholarship programme. Her project uses iSCAT microscopy to understand polymerisation.

Yuqing Wu

Yuqing Wu Yuqing Wu joined the Wallace group in 2018 as a PhD student, on a King's College London-China Scholarship. She worked on the diffusion of enzymes on lipid membranes.

Zhongdao Li

⊕ Zhongdao Li After a KURF summer studentship failed to dissuade Zhongdao from working in the lab he joins us for a PhD working on new methods to link artificial cells and real cells.
