MIDLAND BREWING COMPANY

The start of our historically great beer Back in 1933, Michigan became the first state to ratify the 21st amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which would repeal prohibition. We don't know about you, but we're really proud of that fact. When the amendment was adopted, Michigan was quickly on its way to becoming a hub for amazing beer. Dozens of breweries sprung up across the state, including Midland Brewing Company, which opened in 1935 inside an old creamery downtown. The original Midland Brewing Company developed its signature beer - Red Keg Ale - named after the first lumber camp and saloon in Midland County. But during the Great Depression, times were tough and competition was fierce. Even with its damn good beer, the brewery lasted only a few years. Midland Brewing Company was reborn in 2010. Our small posse of entrepreneurs is connecting our passion for brewing Michigan craft beer to Midland's early history - especially its first 100 years, defined by the lumber, railroad and beer..
