This, along with my mom's love for the health profession, piqued my interest in the field of medicine at an early age. I also had a nephew born with congenital heart disease in the late 1980s, before the modern advances in cardiac surgeries for children. Through his struggles as a young child and all that he endured, I developed a great respect for children and their amazing will and pure strength.
