The Springer lab studies how cells compute decisions based on their environment. We are particularly interested in the constraints on signaling imposed by conflicting goals, multiple inputs, physical constraints, and evolutionary history. Most of our experiments use a number of related Saccharomyces yeast strains and species, utilizing a combination of high-throughput assays - including growth, microscopy, and flow cytometry - in combination with multiple stimuli or genetic alterations. To better aid our analysis, a portion of the lab is focused on developing novel assays for measuring RNA processing using high throughput sequencing and for quantitating post-translational modifications by mass spectrometry.
