HERZOG - Key Persons

Jonathan C. Herzog

Jonathan C. Herzog co-founded the boutique law firm Herzog + Sheffield, P.C. in 2012. A native New Yorker, he fell in love with the theatre at age five when taken to his first Broadway show, George M!, at the Palace Theatre. All his life, he has wanted to help "put projects together" and has had the great fortune as both an attorney and producer to do just that. But his interests and skills are far more varied than just involvement with the theater as you can see from the numerous topics covered throughout this site. He has co-produced the Broadway and national touring productions of Rodgers & Hammerstein's State Fair; and co-produced, Off-Broadway, Love's Fire, and The IT Girl. He serves on the Board of Directors of Primary Stages, The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), The International Theatre Literacy Project, is an Advisory Board Member of the American Theatre Wing since 1993 as well as a Tony voter, and is a Trustee for The Anna Sosenko Assist Trust (through which he has proudly supported, hundreds of artists and dozens of NYMF projects), and a member of The LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York, and, the New York County Lawyers Association. He has taught at Hofstra University and Berkeley College as an Adjunct Professor, and has lectured at, M.I.T., Fordham University School of Law, Franklin Pierce School of Law, The Commercial Theatre Institute (CTI), Theatrical Resources Unlimited (TRU), and The Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Among Jonathan's earlier work experiences he was Business Affairs Liaison for Radio City Music Hall; Development Manager for The Metropolitan Opera; and, House Manager for The New York Shakespeare Festival. Jonathan is a graduate of Clark University (BA, Economics and Philosophy), Fordham University School of Law (Evening Division), and studied at The University of Sussex, England. He is admitted to the Bar of the State of New York as well as the Southern District of the United States District Court. Some of his more unusual endeavors include: being a disc jockey on BBC4 radio in Brighton, England; earning his PADI (international scuba diving license) off the coast of Tanzania; played the French Horn competitively for twelve years; travels extensively; in addition to producing theatrical projects On and Off Broadway, he's produced many shows for benefits of organizations such as, The American Theatre Wing, and, The Museum of the City of New York as well as cabaret shows for performers like Liliane Montevecchi and Tovah Feldshuh. He happily shares his life with his husband, Bradley Schiel who handles corporate treasury for Bloomberg, LP. Jonathan and Bradley were wed on October 12, 2003 (New York Times Announcement) and legally married in Connecticut on the same date of his anniversary, in 2010. They share their lives with a regal English Pointer named, Memphis (see "Mascots"). Family and friends are important to both of them and it is that feeling of warmth and trust which characterizes our practice as well. Jonathan C. Herzog founded the boutique law firm The Herzog Law Group. A native New Yorker, he fell in love with the theatre at age five when taken to his first Broadway show, George M!, at the Palace Theatre.
