Beatrix Yip

Beatrix began her musical journey with piano lessons at the age of 3. Passionate about music and helping others, her journey led her to study at Wilfrid Laurier University, where she received a Bachelor of Music Therapy (BMT) in 2019 and a Master's of Arts in Community Music (MA) in 2020. Beatrix also holds her Grade 9 Piano Certification and Grade 7 Voice Certification with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). She is a board-certified music therapist (MTA), and a certified Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT) with The Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Beatrix's clinical experience includes working with children and adults with special needs, brain injury rehabilitation patients, and older adults in need of geriatric care. She takes a person- and culture- centered approach to ensure successful, uplifting musical experiences, and believes strongly in such experiences as driving forces for change and motivation in reaching each client or student's unique goals.

Emily Chan

Emily began her musical journey when she was enrolled in group piano classes at the age of 3. She continued taking piano lessons and developing her love for music, until she eventually discovered a passion for using music to help others. This led her to study in the music therapy program at Wilfrid Laurier University. Emily received her Bachelor of Music Therapy (BMT) in 2018 and holds a Grade 10 piano certification and Grade 8 voice certification with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). She is a certified music therapist (MTA) and has received her Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) certification from The Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Emily has worked with individuals with special needs, older adults, and patients in palliative care. She believes that music is a special tool that can be used by each individual to improve quality of life and aims to help her clients and students meet their unique needs and goals through the use of music.

Gabriella Serruya

Gabriella is a seasoned music instructor and community leader with over 25 years of experience developing and delivering individual and group music programs for people of all ages. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Music degree (BFA) from York University, is a certified Orff Schulwerk instructor from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), and has attained her Grade 10 Piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). Gabriella has played trombone in musical theatre orchestras and has also performed in numerous choirs, jazz and classical ensembles. She has led music programs in schools, day care centres, and community and faith-based organizations. Gabriella joined the TPSMTS team in 2016. In 2019, she was promoted to Senior Music Teacher and will train and assist all of our music teachers, develop and implement our group music classes, and maintain our catalogue of teaching resources. In 2022, Gabriella was also been promoted to Administrative Assistant. Gabriella is passionate about developing a love of music in all of her students!

Jane Hong

Jane's love for music began when she had her first interaction with a piano at the age of three. After many years of hard work, she received her Associateship of the Trinity College London (ATCL) in Piano Performance, which is equivalent to the Associateship of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto (ARCT). Guided by her belief that music is a universal language, she pursued a career to facilitate music as a method of communication and expression. This led her to the field of Music Therapy. She graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Music Therapy (BMT) with Internship, a Minor in Psychology, and is a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) and Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC). Jane also received her Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT) certification from The Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Jane's clinical experience includes working with individuals in geriatric care, rehabilitation hospital patients, and individuals with special needs. She enjoys creating ways for individuals to discover and find their voice through music. She firmly believes that music enables people to express feelings, regardless of any musical background.

Yu Kwei Chan

Yu Kwei began her musical journey playing songs by ear at the age of 3. She soon began piano lessons and participating in competitions. She holds a Bachelor of Music Therapy Degree (BMT) from Wilfrid Laurier University, is a Certified Accredited Music Therapist (MTA), and is a certified Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT) through The Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. She has attained her Grade 10 Piano Certification from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). In addition, she is a Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT). As a music therapist, music teacher, and ABA instructor therapist, Yu Kwei has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and older adults within group home, summer camp, day program, educational, and long-term care settings. She has taught piano and adapted piano lessons for over 5 years and has seen the successes of her students through her person-centred approach.
