The important crops covered under the project include Cassava, Sweet potato, Colocasia (Swamp taro, bunda and eddoe type), Dioscorea spp. Amorphophalus, Pachyrrhizus and minor tuber crops like Winged bean, Arrowroot, Coleus, Xanthosoma etc., A total of 4156 accessions of different tuber crops are being maintained at differnt Centres of AICRPTC... Tropical root and tuber crops are well known since ancient times for saving mankind during food crisis. They play an important role in the dietary habits of people living in the tropics. Tuber crops produce large quantity of dietary energy and have stable yield under different environmental conditions.
