Angela Johnson-Williams' journey to Providence Englewood Charter School began as a 3rd grader, in a public school, who loved her teacher for teaching her cursive writing. Angela attended public, catholic and private schools and the combination of those experiences shaped who she is today. When Angela graduated she pledged to return and give back to the communities that taught her how to set and achieve goals. She honored her pledge. After earning her bachelor's degree in education from DePaul University and masters' degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from Olivet Nazarene University and Educational Leadership from Concordia University, Angela went into teaching as a high school math teacher. She was later promoted to serve as mathematics department chair and as a member of the school's first leadership team. This training prepared Angela for the opportunity to serve as principal when Providence Englewood Charter School was formed in 2007. Since joining the school, Angela has been instrumental in creating an environment of academic and personal success for its students. Student NWEA test scores have grown dramatically from 16 percent to 50 percent. The number of 3rd-8th graders, who approached, met and exceeded state standards on PARCC in both reading and math has increased to 62 percent. More important to Angela is that 100 percent of Providence Englewood's students have been accepted into Chicago's leading high schools. Angela's work has been recognized by many organizations. She was awarded the Golden Apple Scholar and was named the first recipient of the Chicago Public Schools Principal Performance Award. Angela's experience as a student taught her that by setting goals and working hard, goals and dreams are achieved. She chose to join Providence Englewood Charter School to make her contribution to bettering the world.
