At its best, psychotherapy fosters attitudes of empowerment and humility, both towards self and others. A relationship is created not only between two people, we also form a relationship with ourselves. It is the basis of our self esteem, the internal value we give to ourselves which determines our ability to function in the external world. Sometimes, however, our usual strategies for coping become inadequate and drain our energy, leaving us feeling isolated and confused.
