Dr. Cress is a Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and Deputy Dean for Research Affairs at the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona. She has a 25-year history of contributing to interdisciplinary research through the publication of more than 100 original research articles. Her national service includes permanent membership on scientific study sections including those organized by NIH, the Department of Defense and the American Cancer Society. Her research interests include investigating the regulation of cell surface molecules called integrins and defective cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix in disease processes and tissue damage responses. The practical application of the work has resulted in several patent awards on new anti-adhesion peptides that are currently being tested for their ability to prevent cancer metastasis and to sensitize cancer to currently available therapies.

Conrad J. Clemens, MD, MPH is the associate dean for Graduate Medical Education at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He is responsible for overseeing the 600 residents and fellows who make up the University's 42 residency and fellowship programs. Dr. Clemens, a professor of Pediatrics, has been on faculty at the College of Medicine since 2002. He has served in a number of leadership roles, including director of the Pediatric Residency Program, co-director of the Pediatric-Emergency Medicine Residency Program, chair of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, associate head of the Department of Pediatrics, and chief of the Section of General Pediatrics. Dr. Clemens has received numerous teaching awards and is involved in a number of clinical research projects in his field.

Dr. Wertheim joined The University of Arizona from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he served as vice chair for research in the Department of Surgery and associate director of the MD-PhD program. Dr. Wertheim's NIH- and VA-funded laboratory investigates new methods to bioengineer liver and kidney tissue as a future solution to organ shortage in transplantation. Dr. Wertheim holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He obtained a doctoral degree in bioengineering and a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his clinical training in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital and a transplant surgery fellowship at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Wertheim was awarded the highly coveted Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2019.
