Dr. Kilmartin grew up in Southeastern Massachusetts attending Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth, and then College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. At Holy Cross, Dr. Kilmartin studied Pre-Med with a major in Studio Art. She went on to receive her DMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Upon graduation from dental school, Dr. Kilmartin continued her studies at the University of Pennsylvania earning a Certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. After gaining valuable experience as a general dentist for several years, Dr. Kilmartin completed her education at Tufts University in Boston, earning a Certificate in Advanced Graduate Study in Endodontics.
Dr. Kilmartin has been practicing with Southcoast Endodontics since 2005. Striving to provide high-quality dental care, Dr. Kilmartin's gentle touch and caring demeanor is her top priority while administering Endodontic therapy to her patients.
While not in the office, Dr. Kilmartin enjoys spending time with her family. Her favorite activities include gardening, traveling, skiing and running.

Dr. Mary Samani received her dental degree from dental school in Iran in 2010 and worked as a general dentist for 2 years. She then immigrated to the United States where she began the Advanced Standing Program at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. She completed her DMD degree in 2017 and worked for one year as a general dentist. She finished a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program at Rochester University.
Next, she pursued her dream of becoming an endodontist and was accepted in the post-doctoral endodontics residency at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. She graduated in June of 2022. She is passionate about endodontics and is excited to be practicing in the South Shore.
She recently got married to her lovely husband, Babak Eliassi-Rad, MD who practices ophthalmology in the south shore. She enjoys spending time with her family - in particular, her niece, Ava. She also enjoys painting (watercolor and oil painting).

Southcoast Endodontics got its start in 1976 with the opening of a practice by our founder, Dr. Roger R. Lacoste. Dr. Lacoste received a BA from College of the Holy Cross and a DMD from the University of Pennsylvania. He went on to receive a post-graduate certificate in Endodontics from Boston University. Active in local, state and national dental associations over the course of his career, he was always at the forefront of advancement of his profession. A pioneer of new technologies, Dr. Lacoste was one of the first in the area to incorporate the use of digital radiography, operating microscopes, and microsurgical techniques in Endodontics. He served as a consultant to the development of Endodontic practice management software, and has been a lifelong learner.
Our practice has grown under his leadership and now includes four locations serving many towns in Southern New England. Dr. Lacoste's strong work ethic, and passion for delivering the highest quality Endodontic care for patients inspires us every day. His example instills the values and integrity that are at the core of our mission at Southcoast Endodontics, that is, to work hard to provide technologically advanced, compassionate and effective dental care. Although retired from practice, he frequently visits the office to check on operations and offer his expertise.

Dr. Surprenant is a South Coast native who has lived in this area her whole life. She attended Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth, MA; then went on to Boston College, receiving her undergraduate degree in Studio Art with a Pre-Med concentration. She then joined her sister at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where she graduated with her DMD degree in 2000. After completing her post-doctoral program at Boston University School of Dental Medicine, where she earned her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study degree in Endodontics, she joined the practice in 2002. Dr Surprenant also taught in the pre and post-doctoral programs at Boston University after graduation.
Like her partners, Dr. Surprenant strives to give the best overall endodontic care to her patients, with open communication and high-quality techniques, in a calm, compassionate manner.
She enjoys spending time with her husband, Dan, and their three children. Their favorite activities include sailing Buzzards Bay, skiing, and traveling.

Dr. Doherty is a 6th generation dentist in his family and a 2003 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He did his post-doctoral training at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in Endodontics (Root Canal Therapy) and received his specialty degree in Endodontics in 2005. In addition, Dr. Doherty is the Executive Director of Commonwealth Mobile Oral Health Services, a portable dental practice created by his father in the early 1980's. This practice provides dentistry to underserved populations who face barriers to accessing dental care.
Dr. Doherty is also the CEO and Co-Founder of D4 Practice Solutions, which is a dental practice management consulting firm. Dr. Doherty has served as Dental Director for a Federally Qualified Health Center and a Public Health Dental Center, as well as a clinical instructor for the Post Graduate Endodontic Residents at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Doherty also serves as an expert witness on dental related matters.
When not working, Dr. Doherty enjoys exercising, snowmobiling, dirt bike riding, jet-skiing, skiing, fishing, martial arts and spending time with his wife and three children.
