Andrew Nicholas

Andrew has been a farm business consultant since 1998. He specialises in assessing the whole farm business and preparing business plans, and is an expert in technical management of dairy cows. He has a great deal of knowledge and experience dealing with strategic business planning, appraisals and support regimes to include, for example, Single Farm Payments. He has worked for Throup Slater Consultants, managed a dairy herd of 700 cows and is currently working with Harvey Hughes Independent Rural Consultants.

Elaine Rees

Job Titles:
  • Diversification Adviser
Elaine advises on skills and training within agricultural businesses, focussing on livestock, food and the environment. She has worked for the Welsh Assembly assisting agricultural and food businesses apply for financial assistance towards adding value to their produce. This has involved creating business plans, budgets and financial forecasts. She works with Reading University/Royal Veterinary College looking at cost of production and on beef farms, and also works for Livestock Marketing Ltd looking at cost of production on sheep farms. Elaine is a Welsh speaker, with a background in Welsh farming. She has previously worked as a Farming Connect Facilitator as a training manager, delivering and co-ordinating training courses. She was also Shropshire County Commodity Co-ordinator for the NFU, co-ordinating County Commodity meetings in the sectors of dairy, livestock and combinable crops.

John Davies

John Davies is the Managing Director of E and J Solutions Ltd. He provides full project support for Anaerobic Digestion projects including grid connection, feedstock advice, equipment sourcing, financial feasibility (cash flow forecasts, start up summaries etc), related permitting and digestate application advice, electricity sales contracts, planning following on to project management and biological management once up and running. John has been a self-employed independent farm business advisor since October 2000 providing crop protection and crop production advice, diffuse pollution advice, environmental stewardship including management plans, HACCP, COSHH, legislative and Farm Assurance advice. His experience covers both the arable and livestock sectors and he is equally well versed in both. He has managed farms used for Game Conservancy trials and was integral to the development and implementation of environmental best practice. Along with his farm business skills base he has developed an in depth knowledge of woodland management, game management and diversification, including Christmas tree production, as well as other niche markets.

Jon Swain

Jon is an energy consultant specialising in the agricultural and horticultural sectors. Since 2005, he has worked as Project Engineer with Farm Energy, advising on the installation of renewable technology projects on farms, planning applications, grants and FiTs / RHI considerations. He provides practical and technical advice on energy supply, energy efficiency and carbon emissions reduction solutions to clients in the agricultural and commercial sector. He also provides consultancy and project management on private small to medium energy efficiency installations. Jon is a Welsh speaker and is the son of a Welsh farmer. He is an Associate Member of the Energy Institute, Interim Membership Engineering Council, and is a Carbon Trust registered consultant.
