Our goal is to provide all our babies the best start in life, including provision of abundance weaning, enrichment activities, and socialization opportunities that help ease the transition of our birds from aviary life to family life... At Isis Sky, all baby birds are pulled from the nest box at three weeks old, unless there is a reason to remove them sooner, and handfed. We feel that it is important for the babies to initially feed from the parents, allowing for establishment of natural antibodies and digestive flora. The three-week mark is widely established as a suitable time to begin handfeeding, as it allows for parental involvement, but also allows the babies to imprint and bond with humans. Socialization occurs even before the babies are removed for handfeeding, through gentle cuddling, touch, and talking. Babies are allowed to fledge naturally, and are permitted opportunities to fly.
