Summer Solstice Farms started as a dream to own a patch of land that we could use to grow our own food. At the time, we worked as farmhands on a small cattle ranch in Colorado, in addition to our full-time jobs. We grew a bountiful garden, but we weren't allowed to have our own livestock. When we moved to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, we purchased 40 acres and a small cabin in the woods. Our desire to be self-sustainable motivated the purchase of our first chickens, followed a year later by dairy goats and meat rabbits. As our farming dreams grew, so did our need for more usable land. In the spring of 2013, we moved to a 70 acre farmstead in Carney, Michigan. After 3 years there, a job transfer moved us to Deputy, Indiana ( 45 minutes north of Louisville, KY). We spent summer 2016 getting our feet underneath us at our new 40 acre farm, and we've begun establishing pasture land and fences to accomodate our small Dexter cattle herd and dairy goats...
