HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN REVIEW

Hazard mitigation is "...sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and their property from hazards" (FEMA, 2009, p 1). It is essential for communities to take action before disasters strike. A hazard mitigation plan is a long-term strategy that reduces a community's losses in the event of a natural or man-made hazard. Hazard mitigation plans are completed at the local, county, and state level, as well as for Indian Reservations. This website is designed to review the hazard mitigation plan for Whatcom County, located in the beautiful Northwest corner of Washington state.
