MARKHAM MAIN COLLIERY BAND

We are one of the last remaining Colliery Bands in the Country, and are extremely proud of our heritage; retaining the title of Markham Main Colliery Band is our sign of respect for all the miners who have supported us over the years... The Markham Main Colliery St. John's Ambulance Brigade brass band was formed in 1924. They continued to play throughout the war years, and by 1947 they had won many prizes in the Brass banding world. During this time, women were not permitted to play in the same band as men and a separate women's section was created... The band is available for booking throughout the year. We play at many types of events, public and private, large and small.
