PHIMC was founded in 1994 by Dr. Patrick Lenihan and the Commissioner of Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) Sister Sheila Lyne. Judith Johns served as the organization's first Executive Director. Originally named Chicago Center for Health Systems Development, Inc., the organization was incubated at CDPH to support program implementation... PHIMC brings head and heart to our work as practitioners, advocates, educators, organizers, researchers, and thought partners. Our passion is fueled by the knowledge that our creative partnerships with other nonprofits, community-based organizations, cross-sector government agencies, and other institutions truly make the public's health better. It is possible to have public health and healthcare systems that serve everyone.
