Torrec Technology develops and commercializes biochar production technology, which is based on the decades of know-how of the most important steps of biochar production: wood chip and sawdust handling, drying, heat generation and thermal modification. The industrial scale torrefaction demonstration plant was built in Mikkeli Finland, where the suitability of different wood based raw materials for the process was tested. The operating experience at this plant has proved that the technological solution is best the market. Torrec Technology has developed an effective and compact slow pyrolyze reactor, which can be scaled up to over 30 - 50.000 t/a capacity (depending on the biochar quality.) The concept includes raw material pre-treatment system, which significantly improves the process yield, produces constant biochar quality, and removes sand and other impurities effectively from the raw material.
