GKPA

The Grampian Kidney Patients Association was formed by the patients in the early 1970's to support patients who have kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant. New methods and technologies for dialysis were improving and changing rapidly, but there was very little information available, so the GKPA was an excellent informal way for people to glean information and exchange experiences of haemodialysis and all its interconnected treatments... GKPA helps patients in renal units in Aberdeen, Banff, Elgin, Inverurie, Kirkwall, Lerwick, Peterhead and Stonehaven with a committee made up of mainly patients with a scattering of family members and staff. Throughout the year we host events to allow patients to come together and to help raise funds for the work we do. At these events, people can talk about what is going on in their lives as well as raise awareness of kidney failure and organ donation.
