Established in 2004, IAPSIT is a non-profit scientific association committed to profitable and sustainable development of the sugar and integrated industries in developing countries encompassing agricultural, industrial, environmental and socio-economic concerns through sharing of scientific knowledge and technological advancement... The world sugar market has become increasingly complex and competitive with the imposition of WTO regulations and formation of several economic blocks. These have affected sugar production, consumption and trade with inevitable consequences for the sugar industry in developing countries which are already plagued with low efficiency and a high cost of production. In order to build a strong and sustainable sugar industry in developing countries which contributes over 70% of global sugar, the production system needs to be re-engineered to obtain maximum efficiency.
