Anthony Fenwick-Wilson - Chairman, Founder

Anthony founded Crossflow Energy in 2007 and is currently Executive Chairman. He has had broad international business experience in many fields. Having realised the multi-billion dollar growth potential in the energy conservation business, he founded CarbonAqua, which within five years of start-up had over £80 million of business in the pipeline, with clients such as Microsoft, Mercedes Benz and the British Government. After examining the enormous potential of what has become the Crossflow Energy turbine, he formed the Crossflow Energy Company and resigned as the executive chairman of CarbonAqua in order to totally concentrate on developing Crossflow Energy into a profitable, global company, with the financial benefits that that could bring to those involved.

Edward Nicholson

Edward has been a Non-Executive Director of Crossflow Energy since 2012. He has had a long career in investment banking, strategy consultancy and the provision of advisory services to private businesses and their owners, with a particular focus on the Emerging Markets and specifically Latin America. He was a director of Barclays de Zoete Wedd in its corporate finance division, chairman of several Barclays/BZW asset management businesses and subsequently co-led the Latin American corporate finance and strategy practice for McKinsey & Company, based in Brazil. He is a non-executive director of several companies and serves as an advisor to a small number of Family Offices as well as to a FTSE 100 company on Latin America. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Jim Barry

Jim Barry joined the Crossflow Energy team as from January 2017 bringing substantial financial and business experience from the banking and renewable energy sectors. Most recently he was with Vestas, the leading Danish based Wind Turbine manufacturer who he joined in 2010 to develop training to ensure a thorough understanding within Vestas of Project Financing structures and techniques, at the time supporting Vestas to preposition itself from a sales focussed to one supporting developers to secure finance and providing long term O&M support for projects. Prior to Vestas Jim worked for over 20 years in the Banking Sector with Barclays, Dresdner, HBOS and UniCredit where he ran various specialist teams focused on both advisory and debt arranging and underwriting activities in the Project & Export Finance area. His financing experience goes across a wide range of Infrastructure sectors and geographic regions, but in recent years he has focussed increasingly on renewable energy including time spent with Trinergy, a leading developer and operator of wind farms in Italy and Germany, as Head of Capital Management, helping to develop and secure a 1bn+ refinancing structure for a portfolio of Italian and German wind assets.

John Cunningham - CTO

With his vast company leadership experience in building and managing teams in growing technology businesses, John joined Crossflow in March 2020 as CTO to effect his demonstrable experience in product strategy, performance management, company finance and make a true difference. He is a Chartered (Fellow) Mechanical Engineer with senior technical experience in standard and custom product design, including R&D, low to high volume production, high integrity machined products and in-house software development. As an International business traveller with diverse industry experience in Structural Engineering, Oil and Gas, Automotive, Renewable Energy, Fluid storage and Electrical contracting his wealth of knowledge is a true asset for Crossflow.

Jonathan Hale

Jonathan became a Non-Executive Director in 2013. He has over 35 years of commercial and financial experience in the aerospace, energy, mining and consulting sectors. Prior to joining Crossflow Energy, Jonathan was director of strategy for Rolls Royce plc and a member of its group executive for ten years, retiring in 2010. He was responsible for corporate strategy, M&A, development of new businesses and partnerships, and technology development and commercialisation. Over his career, Jonathan has also worked for Anglo American in South Africa; Fluor in San Francisco; LEK Consulting in London, where he was a senior partner, a member of the executive committee and responsible for its industrial practice; and Ascot, a fine and speciality chemicals company, where as head of corporate finance and strategy he oversaw several acquisitions and disposals. Jonathan has an MBA from Harvard School of Business Administration and an MA and BA from Cambridge University in Metallurgy and Materials Science.

Juan-Enrique Rassmuss

Juan-Enrique is one of the principal investors in Crossflow Energy, and has been a Non-Executive Director of the Company since April 2012. He manages his family's investments in steel, oil and gas, industrials, alternative energy, transport, agriculture and mining.

Mark Cross

Job Titles:
  • Chairman of the BOARD & DIRECTOR for R & D
Professor Cross was appointed Chair of the Board in November 2016. He also serves as Executive Director for R&D. Professor Cross recently retired as the LCRI Professor of Renewable Energy in the College of Engineering at Swansea University. With over 40 years of experience in the field of computational modelling, analysis and optimisation of engineering processes and systems, he pioneered the concept of simulation-based design using advanced numerical methods on high-performance parallel computers. He has worked with Crossflow Energy since its earliest days on conceptual design and analysis of its turbine systems and for much of this time has provided essential technology support to the Board. Mark has wide industrial and senior management experience. He was a Head of School, Director of Research and then Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Greenwich over a 20 year period, where he spun out a number of high technology start-up companies from his research team, including one the US which successfully sold to a multi-national corporation in 2012.

Martin Barnes - CEO

Martin joined the Crossflow team in February 2021 as CEO and was appointed to the Board in March to take the business through to full commercialisation. He has a proven track record in business leadership with over 30 years in the oil and gas; renewable energy and power transmission sectors, both with small entrepreneurial businesses and FTSE 100 companies and brings extensive experience in building scale and exploiting commercial value, particularly in technology-based SME companies. His entrepreneurial approach and strategic outlook together with strong leadership skills and hands-on operational management are ideally suited to the next phase of Crossflow's development. Martin is an Engineer by background with diverse and international experience of energy and infrastructure markets and key supply chains. He will focus on accelerating the roll out of Crossflow products and the evolution of next generation designs, opening new markets and attracting new investment to ensure Crossflow realises its full potential.

Rebecca White - Chief Commercial Officer

A degree qualified Mechanical Engineering, having spent 15 years in engineering and project finance, in both the private and public sector, Rebecca has considerable experience in the management and delivery of large engineering projects and has excellent business focus, analytical and negotiation skills. Managing the business on a day-to-day basis, Rebecca's role is to provide strong direction and motivation to the South-Wales based team in order to achieve the vision and goals of the organisation, and drive strategic performance at all levels. She is responsible for delivering the business strategy, key goals and initiatives to enable Crossflow Energy to bring the Crossflow renewable energy technology solution to commercialisation. With a passion for sustainable development, having managed in-country student engineering projects in rural Africa, Rebecca lectures in Project Management in Sustainable Engineering at Swansea University.

Rob Ellis

With over 25 years experience in renewables Rob has led engineering teams in innovative product design across Europe and U.S. As a Composite Consultant, he became extensively involved in design, construction and inspection of both racing yachts and wind and water turbine blades. Project siting, anemometry mast design and installation, power performance evaluation of commercial wind farms, wind focus, keen sailor, boat builder are all key attributes that make Rob the multi-disciplined dynamic lead required to drive the engineering design to a successful completion.
