Bryan Contreras Zamora

Bryan is doctoral student in the Clinical Health Psychology program at CU Denver. Bryan obtained his associate degree in psychology from the Community College of Denver in 2016 and transferred to complete his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Colorado State University in 2018. Subsequently, he received his Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from CU Denver in 2022. During his master's program, Bryan interned at community health centers, where he became interested in understanding the relationship between health conditions, healthcare disparities, and mental health. Bryan also volunteered as a research assistant in the Psychosocial Oncology lab and PCP under Dr. Kilbourn's mentorship and was responsible for supporting research projects related to integrative healthcare and psychosocial oncology. His research interests include improving mental health services in integrated healthcare agencies, multicultural barriers to mental healthcare access for patients with cancer, and palliative care. Bryan's professional service comprises supporting community health centers as a behavioral health provider.

Kristin M. Kilbourn

Kristin M. Kilbourn, PhD, MPH, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Colorado Denver downtown campus and she has an appointment in the Division of General Internal Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado. She is also Adjunct Faculty in the Colorado School of Public Health and an Associate Member of the University of Colorado Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Kilbourn earned her BA in Psychology and Biology from the University of California, San Diego, an MPH in Health Promotion at San Diego State University, followed by a PhD in Clinical Health Psychology at the University of Miami. Dr. Kilbourn has authored numerous articles for professional journals and has presented her research at several national and international meetings and conferences. She mentors doctoral students in the Clinical Health Psychology program at CU Denver where she has an active research lab. She is currently involved in a variety of research projects and intervention programs in psychosocial oncology, palliative care, cardiovascular disease prevention in underserved and rural populations, and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy for those with serious medical illness.

Lizette Sanchez

Lizette Sanchez is a doctoral student in the Clinical Health Psychology program at the University of Colorado Denver. Lizette earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2020. Following her time at the University, Lizette dedicated her time to publishing research addressing the prevalence of infidelity within Latino subgroups. She also worked as a Registered Behavior Technician providing Applied Behavioral Analysis services to children with Autism. Lizette is a member of Dr. Beth Allen's Relationship Studies Lab, where she strives to expand on the inclusion of intersectionality within couples and family research, primarily within the Latino population. Her research interests include intimate relationships, extradyadic involvement, and making mental health services more accessible to patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Nick Flattery

Nick Flattery is the Senior Project Manager for the Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions at CPC Community Health. He has worked in the field of Public Health for over 13 years. Nick received his Master of Public Health in 2008, after which he joined the CPC Community Health team. Over the past 13 years, Nick has worked in Community Health Centers in a variety of positions. He also worked on the National Children's Study for the University of Colorado. At CPC, Nick manages the Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions (CHHS) program. He is responsible for the training and direction of the CHHS sites that rest across the beautiful state of Colorado. His passion for this program lies in the basic philosophy of public health; that is, the community is the patient and we improve health outcomes, one client at a time. Nick works closely with CPC staff to implement and evaluate this evidence-based, far-reaching, primary prevention program, making it more effective and efficient. Nick lives in Longmont, Colorado with his beautiful bride of 13 years and their 2 kids. They enjoy being outdoors as well as watching a lot of movies together. Nick and his wife get a lot of physical activity coaching their kids' athletic teams throughout the year. Nick also manages to weave intelligence, humor and a love for pyrotechnics into an incredible display on the 4th of July…and any other special occasion.

Pueblo Heart Study

CPC Community Health and the Pueblo Health Department studied the effect of a non-smoking ordinance on heart attack rates. In a before-and-after evaluation of hospital admissions for heart attack in the Pueblo area, heart attack admissions fell by 27% in the 18 months after the ban was in effect. The completed study appeared in the medical journal Circulation, October 2006, as well as in TIME magazine, Business Week, Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. In recognition of the importance of these findings, Colorado recently passed a non-smoking ordinance banning smoking in all public places including restaurants and bars.

Raymond Estacio

Dr. Estacio is director of Community Health at CPC. He is a general internist at Denver Health and Associate Professor in Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Estacio maintains a primary care practice for underserved patients including a high percentage of patients with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. Most of his patients are of Latino ethnicity and are socioeconomically disadvantaged. He also currently serves as the Associate Medical Director of Quality and Research at Denver Health, our local safety net hospital. Dr. Estacio's career has focused on diabetes, hypertension and heart disease prevention over the past 20 years. More recently, Dr. Estacio has utilized his experience in clinical trials to improve health care delivery to disadvantage populations through outreach projects such as CHHS and CHARLAR. He joined CPC in 1992 as the Assistant Medical Director of its Appropriate Blood Pressure Control in Diabetes (ABCD) Trial, became Medical Director of this large clinical trial in 1995, and Co-Principal Investigator of the ABCD Trial in 2001 where he gained most of his expertise in clinical trials. Dr. Estacio is the author or co-author of numerous articles on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Stephanie Coronel-Mockler

Stephanie Coronel-Mockler is Senior Community Health Specialist at CPC Community Health. Prior to joining CPC in 2004, she was a Genetic Research Associate at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska where she managed studies on hereditary cancers, and provided education to families dealing with hereditary cancers. To stay connected to the public health community, she served on the Colorado Society of Public Health Education's (COSOPHE) Board for three years. In 2008, Stephanie was awarded the Excellence in Public Health Education Award and is an alum of the Regional Institute for Health and Environmental Leadership's Advanced Leadership Training Program. When not at work, she enjoys playing tennis with her family, being outdoors, and cooking yummy but healthy meals. At CPC, Stephanie has overseen the design, implementation and evaluation of the Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions (CHHS) and CHARLAR programs. She enjoys program evaluation and designing health promotion software applications that incorporate interactive health communication technology to improve health. Between 2006 and 2008, she participated in the development of several revisions of the Health-e-Solutions cardiovascular risk assessment, and in 2009, she led the design and development of CHHS' Outreach, Screening and Referral (OSCAR) system.
