ST. JOHN'S - Key Persons
I am pleased to have been appointed as a Foundation Academy Councillor to St John's CE Academy. I have lived in Darlington since 2017 and it had been my pleasure to be involved in leading regular school Collective Worship.
As the leader of The Salvation Army in Darlington, I am passionate about children having a Christian foundation, whilst also appreciating and respecting other faiths and beliefs as part of a rounded education.
As a mother and grandmother, I believe in encouraging every child to feel valued and given every opportunity to reach their potential. I see this at St. John's and will strongly endorse this in my role as an Academy Councillor.
As a child who received free school meals and the first in my family's generation to go onto further education, I am passionate about education and the positive impact it can have on the life chances of children. Gaining a Bachelor of Education Honours degree led to a wonderful, fulfilling career in teaching for 36 years, working in Durham and Darlington. For 21 years, I was privileged to be Headteacher at St John's, working with enthusiastic children, a supportive community, committed staff and a dedicated team of governors.
Retirement has gifted me with quality time to spend with family and friends, as well as the freedom to enjoy travel and indulge in my passion for gardening. However, I am delighted to have been asked to be a Foundation Academy Councillor, which allows me to continue to play a part in shaping and supporting this wonderful school and its community. I am thoroughly blessed to be able to continue being part of St Johns' journey and look forward to being part of the Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Learning Trust.

I am the father of two current pupils at St John's C.E. Academy and a regular worshiper at St Columba's Church, Darlington. I have been working in the Further Education and Skills sector, dealing predominantly with adult apprenticeships since 2007 and am currently an Operations Manager of a large national training provider. I am appointed governor by the Durham Diocesan Board of Education, following recommendation from St. John's P.C.C.
I have worked at St. John's since January 2014. Prior to that, I lived and worked as a teacher in East London, where I developed a passion for working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds. I feel very strongly that all children should receive equal opportunities through a high quality education and upon starting my role at St. John's, I knew immediately that the staff and governors shared this vision.
I was appointed as headteacher in September 2021 and am beyond proud to lead St John's and continue to provide an outstanding education for our pupils.

I grew up in Stockton and studied to be a Museum Curator in Sheffield and Newcastle. In 2014, I started work as a Collections and Learning Assistant at Head of Steam Railway Museum. There, I developed a passion for raising aspirations among young people through sharing our local history and exposing them to museum collections and objects.

I was brought up in Darlington in a family of six and now have two wonderful boys of my own, who both attend St. John's CE Academy.
I am a retired Civil Servant having administered a pension scheme on behalf of the Department for Education (DfE) for 18 years prior to my retirement. I was appointed as a Foundation Academy Councillor by the Diocesan Board of Education following a recommendation for the position by St John's Parochial Church Council. (P.C.C.)
I have been a Foundation Academy Councillor at St Johns C.E. Academy for several years and my involvement in ensuring that the pupils receive an outstanding education continues to be a privilege.

I have been involved with St. John's school for 20 years as both my sons attended this school. I also work at St. John's as an Administration Assistant. I have been an academy councillor for 15 years. Starting as a parent governor and now I represent the non teaching staff on the board. St. John's is a very special and outstanding school and I feel honoured to be part of its past and future success.
