BOU FERRER

The wreck Bou Ferrer is a Roman merchant ship wrecked in mid-1st C AD off the coast of Villajoyosa, Alicante. Its length is about 30 meters and about 230 tons burden. It was a great trade sailboat carrying a major load of about 2500 amphorae, the type Dr. 7-11, produced pottery like Villanueva de Puerto Real Cadiz. Each amphora containing about forty liters of fish sauce produced from anchovy, mackerel and horse mackerel.
