Spirit Winter Percussion of Orleans, Massachusetts is an indoor marching percussion ensemble under the direction of Richard K. Pugsley whose members range from ages 10-22. Every year the group immerses itself in a richly educational process of developing a dynamic, competitive indoor percussion show from its initial conception, to full production. Each season culminates at the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships in Dayton, OH. WGI, the "Sport of the Arts," is a growing activity that combines music, marching, dance, and theatre, in an explosively energetic art form that pushes the boundaries physically, emotionally, educationally, and creatively, opening new worlds of discovery for the young people who participate. In addition to teaching the rudiments of music and marching, the experience of Winter Percussion helps young people to develop essential life skills of leadership, teamwork, discipline, empathy, and respect.
