Jim Robertson was born and raised in McKinney, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1977 with a B.A. in Political Science. In 1980, he graduated from Texas Tech School of Law From 1980 to 1981, Jim was an Assistant District Attorney in Cooke County, Texas. In 1981, Jim was appointed by the Cooke County Commissioner's Court to the position of Cooke County Judge, the chief executive officer of Cooke County. Jim served in the role of County Judge until he resigned in 1991 after winning reelection three times During his time as Cooke County Judge, Jim presided over thousands of probate and guardianship matters and as a result he has extensive knowledge of the Texas Probate and Guardianship systems. Jim has been board certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1989. From 1991 to 2015, Jim operated a private legal practice specializing in Family, Probate, and Real Estate law. Jim Robertson is also a Master Peace Officer, serving the community of Cooke and Montage Counties as a reserve deputy from 2003 until 2017.
