The desire to fit in, belong and to have companions is a desire everyone experiences (Leary & Cox, 2008). The motive to belong is the emotional commitment to being a recognised member of a group of people, allowing an individual to have a sense of being a member of something greater and more crucial than them self (Cherry, 2013).
